Superintendent's Weekly Update

February 2, 2024
Dear Weymouth Public Schools Community,
I hope this letter finds you well. February brings with it a sense of renewal and reflection. As we embrace the changing seasons, it's always fascinating to observe the traditions that mark the transition from winter to spring. Today, on Groundhog Day, Punxsutawney Phil has made his annual prediction - he did not see his shadow! This revelation brings the promise of an early spring and the anticipation of warmer (and hopefuly sunny) days ahead.
As we know, according to folklore, if the groundhog doesn't see its shadow, we can expect an early end to winter. Phil emerged from his burrow with a spring in his step, signaling that the arrival of spring is just around the corner. This is a hopeful prediction that we can all celebrate.
One of the highlights of February is, of course, Valentine's Day. While traditionally a day of expressing love and appreciation, we take this opportunity to celebrate the love of learning and the supportive relationships within our school community. We encourage students to participate in activities that promote kindness, empathy, and positive interactions.
Additionally, February is Black History Month, a time to recognize and celebrate the achievements, contributions, and rich history of African Americans. Black History Month is a significant and integral part of our nation's cultural fabric, providing an invaluable opportunity to celebrate the achievements, contributions, and resilience of African Americans throughout history. Recognized annually in February, Black History Month serves as a crucial reminder to acknowledge the profound impact of Black individuals in shaping our society. It is a time to honor the trailblazers who have broken barriers in various fields, from civil rights and politics to science, literature, and the arts. By incorporating diverse perspectives into our educational curriculum during this month, we strive to foster a more inclusive and understanding community. Through awareness and education, we can empower students to appreciate the rich tapestry of Black history and its profound influence on the progress and success of our nation.
As we embark on this new month, let us continue to work together to create an inclusive and inspiring learning environment. Your involvement, support, and enthusiasm are invaluable to the success of our school community.
Wishing everyone a wonderful February filled with joy, growth, and success.
Warm regards,
Robert Wargo

Adams Academy visits with CFCE
On Thursday our students from Adams Academy visited with our youngest students in the CFCE Center at Adams. They started off with one of our students reading Inch by Inch by Leo Lionni. The story introduces children to a winning, winsome inchworm who can measure anything under the sun, from a robin's tail to a toucan's beak.
Following the story, students from Adams Academy assisted their younger peers in measuring assorted items within the room, including each other. Enjoy the pictures below capturing these collaborative moments!
