School Attendance
As we begin the school year, I would like to take a moment to emphasize a key aspect of our students' success: regular school attendance. We believe that consistent attendance is crucial for your child’s academic and personal growth, and I would like to share with you why this is so important.
Academic Achievement:
- Regular attendance is directly linked to academic success. Students who attend school consistently are more likely to excel academically because they are present for vital instruction, participate in classroom activities, and benefit from continuous learning.
Routines and Responsibilities:
- Consistent school attendance helps students develop important life skills such as punctuality, responsibility, and time management. These skills are valuable not only in their academic life but also in future careers and personal endeavors.
Sense of Belonging:
- Routine and structure provided by regular school attendance can positively impact students' emotional well-being. Being part of a classroom community and having a consistent daily schedule can help students feel secure and supported, which in turn enhances overall mental health and readiness to learn.
Support for Family and School Partnership:
- When students are present in school, it strengthens the partnership between families and educators. We can better support and monitor their progress, address any challenges students may face, and work together to ensure the educational experience is both positive and productive.
We understand that occasional absences due to illness or emergencies are inevitable, and we appreciate your cooperation in keeping us informed of such instances. However, we encourage you to prioritize regular school attendance and work with us to address any concerns that might impact your child's ability to attend consistently. Thank you for your attention to this important matter. If you have any questions or need assistance, please do not hesitate to contact us.
Should you have difficulty getting your student(s) to school on time or on a regular basis, please do not hesitate to reach out. We will gladly work with your family to put supports in place to assure your child's instructional success.
With Hamburg Pride,
Kimberly Sigman, Ed.D
In April 2020, Governor Murphy signed A-3904 into law (P.L.2020, c.27, or “Chapter 27”), which, in part, requires each school district, charter school, renaissance school project, and Approved Private School for Students with Disabilities (APSSD), hereinafter referred to as local educational agencies (LEAs), to submit a proposed program for emergency virtual or remote instruction (Plan) by July 31 annually to the New Jersey Department of Education (NJDOE). In July 2022, the NJDOE readopted N.J.A.C. 6A:32, School District Operations, with amendments and new rules that include updates to the components of the LEA’s Plan. This law provides for the continuity of instruction in the event of a public health-related district closure, by permitting LEAs to utilize virtual or remote instruction to satisfy the 180-day requirement pursuant to N.J.A.C. 6A:32-13.1 & 13.2. To assist LEAs in the submission of Plans, the NJDOE is issuing “Local Educational Agency Guidance for Chapter 27 Emergency Virtual or Remote Instruction Programs for the 2024-2025 School Year,” located on the NJDOE County Offices webpage. It includes a checklist to identify components that must be included in the Plan.
By July 31 annually, each Chief School Administrator must submit the LEA’s Plan for the next school year, approved by the district board of education or charter or renaissance school project board of trustees, and the completed checklist to the respective County Office of Education. As a reminder, an LEA must also post the Plan prominently on the LEA’s website. If you have any questions, please contact your County Office of Education.

Hamburg School's Strategic Plan (2023-2028)
What is a 5-Year Strategic Plan?
At Hamburg School, we are always looking toward the future because we believe every child deserves the best opportunities to learn, grow, and thrive. As a result our district developed a 5-Year Strategic Plan, which is a roadmap that guides our school’s goals, priorities, and progress from 2023 through 2028. This plan is a shared vision for where we want our school to be in five years, and how we are going to get there...together.
In 2023 school stakeholders met with members of our school community where we listened to input from students, families, staff, and community members. With those voices in mind, our plan focuses on a few key areas, including:
-
Educational Programs
-
Resources
-
Community
-
Citizenship
In identifying these four targeted areas, all stakeholders worked together to develop goals and objectives to support ongoing growth. The strategic plan will help us stay focused and accountable, while also giving us the flexibility to adapt as the needs of our students evolve. We invite you to read the Strategic Plan (attached below).
We remain excited about the journey ahead and we look forward to working with you every step of the way.
What Are School District Goals?
School district goals are clear, focused priorities that guide our work each year in our district. These goals are directly derived from our school's 5-Year Strategic Plan, ensuring that everything we do stays aligned with our long-term vision for student success, equity, and continuous improvement.
Each year, these goals help shape decisions, guide initiatives, and track progress at the school level. Importantly, they also serve as the foundation for the Superintendent’s annual evaluation, providing a clear framework to assess leadership effectiveness and accountability.
In short, district goals turn our big-picture vision into measurable action; helping us stay focused, unified, and committed to the success of every student.
