Dear HMS Families,

We had such an amazing year with all of you and your children. We made friends, learned a lot, made mistakes, laughed, cried, had good days and bad days, persevered and looked for celebrations along the way. We appreciate all of your collaboration and conversations around supporting our students. We appreciate the kindness and grace you all have given us this year and trusting us with your children every day. We truly have the BEST kids around and without them, none of this would be possible.

We could not do this without all of your support! Thank you so much from all of us here at HMS!

Who: 6th Grade Students

When: Monday, August 18th ( 8:00am - 12:00pm)

Where: HMS (enter through the main entrance)

During this half-day event, students will meet their teachers and run through their daily schedule. In each class, students will complete a different activity designed to help them get to know their school and prepare for their first day as a middle schooler. These activities will include taking their photo, getting their school ID card and signing up for a locker if they want one.

Parents: Please plan on dropping off your student for this event. Also, from 11:00 am - 12:00 pm, we will have a Schoology session for families to learn how to navigate our learning management system.

Parents can also pay fees and sign Assurance forms for the Chromebooks.

Who: 7th & 8th Grade Students

When: Friday, August 22nd (8:00am - 12:00pm), this is a drop-in event

Where: HMS (enter through the main entrance)

Details: Students, along with their parents, can pick up their class schedules, pay fees, sign Assurance Chromebook forms, take their school photo, sign up for a locker if they want one and learn more about school activities.

Who: 6th, 7th & 8th Grade Students & Families

When: September 2nd

5:30-6:00pm @ HMS gym, parent meeting with Mrs. Colpron & Mr. Slom

6:00-7:00pm Student schedule classroom rotation

Parents and families are encouraged to stop by to meet their child’s teachers and learn more about the curriculum for each course. We hope to see you there!

We are excited to partner with Heather Fresh and bring this amazing opportunity to our incoming 6th grade students for the SECOND year! This is a way for us to try and ease the anxiety students have around transitioning to middle school. It is important to us to make this transition experience fun and exciting. We hope you will consider registering your student!

They will spend four days, July 21st- 24th, from 9:00am to 12:30pm with their peers getting to know our campus, setting goals, guest speakers, practicing with lockers, meeting teachers, visiting with older students, and many more activities planned. Please take some time to consider registering.

For our current 6th and 7th grade students who will be in 7th and 8th grade next year we are excited for girls volleyball, cross country, and a pilot season of football in the fall. Cross Country, Volleyball and Football are scheduled to start Monday 8/25. Please note that not all who tryout for volleyball will make a team.

Registration for fall sports will be through FinalForms and will open June 16th. Your athlete will need to make sure that they have a current physical on file, and all forms (student & parent) are signed through FinalForms. Upcoming Basketball Open Gyms:

There will be basketball open gyms on Tuesday's beginning June 17th - July 29th from 4 - 6 PM. If you have any additional questions please email Coach Morley (janell.morley@hocksd.org).

Please take note of some great opportunities for students from HMS to participate in athletics. These are all fundraisers for teams at HHS. They are great experiences for kids!

We have had requests to create an Instagram account so families can follow us on that platform because they don't use Facebook. So, we are excited to share with you all that we created an Instagram account that is connected to our Facebook page! We are looking forward to connecting with our families using both platforms.

We try to post at least one thing a day! If you are curious what we are up to throughout the day, please consider following our Facebook page. We love to give you all insight to all the amazing things that happen here! We have such an awesome community and it's wonderful to be able to celebrate it!
