Layer Up, Stay Warm! Winter Reminders Inside!
Cold Weather Check-In: Staying Warm & School-Ready!
As the temperatures start to dip, we want to make sure our students stay warm and comfortable throughout the school day. While cozy blankets and heavy coats are perfect for the walk in or ride to school, they cannot be worn during class time.
Dressing in layers is the best way to stay warm while still meeting our dress code—sweaters, hoodies, and long sleeves are all great options.
Below is a reminder of our Attire Expectations
Attire Expectations
-NO HEADGEAR - (hats, beanies, bonnets) as stated in the Student Code of Conduct.
-NO CROP TOPS - Shirts must touch top of pants
-Shorts must be of reasonable length (mid-thigh)
-NO SLIPPERS - Footwear must be school appropriate
-BLANKETS/COATS can not be used throughout the school day
VIOLATIONS
- Asked to change clothes by either calling home or wearing a donated item from Petey's Closet
- Arguing will not be tolerated and may result in disciplinary consequences
Cool-Weather Conduct: After-Dismissal Expectations
We want to provide a friendly reminder to families about our expectations for middle school students who remain on campus after dismissal—whether they are waiting for a younger sibling or have a later pickup time.
To ensure a safe, respectful, and orderly environment for all, please review the following guidelines:
- Students waiting for an Elementary sibling must remain on the middle school side of campus until 3:05 p.m.
- Warm weather: Students will wait outside the middle school doors until 3:05 p.m., then may walk over to meet their sibling or wait for pickup. They must leave campus promptly afterward.
- Cold weather: Students will wait inside the middle school foyer only. They are not permitted to re-enter the school building for any reason.
At all times, students are expected to behave respectfully, use appropriate language, and avoid any disruptive or unsafe behavior.
Inappropriate behavior will not be tolerated and may result in the student losing the privilege to remain on school property after dismissal.
Thank you for your support in helping us maintain a safe and positive school environment for all Northwood students.

HONOR FLIGHT DONATION
It was an absolute honor to deliver a cashier’s check for $1,169 to Honor Flight Cleveland. This incredible contribution was made possible by the generosity of our Northwood Campus families and the unwavering support of our community.
A heartfelt thank-you to everyone who donated, shared, and showed up—especially our veterans and all who attended the Veterans Day parade. Your presence and participation made the day truly meaningful, and it’s because of you that we can continue supporting programs that honor those who have served.
A SWEET THANK YOU
Thank you to everyone who supported our Pink Cookie Fundraiser!
All proceeds will go directly toward celebrating our amazing office aides, who support our office staff every single day with essential tasks like sorting materials, delivering messages, running errands, and so much more. SCHOOL SAFETY
Morning Traffic Safety
Please help us maintain a safe and orderly traffic pattern during morning drop-off. We have nine buses that arrive daily, and they may be delayed for a variety of reasons. For this reason, it is essential that families do not drop students off in front of the middle school entrance or near the stop sign.
Last year, a student was nearly pinned between two cars during morning drop-off. To help prevent incidents like this, Mr. Basinski is outside each morning to safely cross students at the crosswalk. Thank you for following the traffic pattern—your cooperation helps keep everyone safe.
Student Interactions and Verbal Safety
We also ask that you speak with your child about the importance of choosing their words carefully. Any threat—no matter the intent—must be taken very seriously. Students sometimes explain inappropriate comments by saying they were “just joking,” but in today’s society, we cannot and will not overlook any statement that could be interpreted as a threat toward another student.
Please remind your child to communicate respectfully and responsibly, and to seek help from an adult if they ever feel unsafe or uncomfortable.
Thank you for your continued support and vigilance. When families and school staff work together, we create the safe, welcoming environment every student deserves.
Please follow the ONE WAY traffic flow at Arrival and Dismissal
ONLY BUSSES may park in front of the Middle School Entrance
PBIS SPOTLIGHT
WHILE OUT WALKING
We love capturing the excitement of learning each day at Northwood! Here are a few snapshots of our students hard at work, collaborating with classmates, and engaging in their classrooms.
School Clinic - Non-Urgent Visits
We’d like to address an important concern regarding the increasing number of student clinic visits. Our nurse and health aide support both the middle and elementary schools—responsible for just under 1,000 students daily—while managing timed medications, care plan development, education, conduct health screenings on over 500 students, urgent medical needs, etc.
Recently, there has been a noticeable rise in non-urgent visits. While we always want students to feel supported, frequent trips for minor issues—like slight headaches, stomachaches, or general fatigue—take time away from learning and strain clinic resources. We are asking families to talk with their students about when it’s appropriate to visit the clinic.
Moving forward, our staff will prioritize emergent medical needs, such as medication administration, injuries, allergic reactions, and fevers. Students with minor symptoms may be asked to remain in class when appropriate.
Thank you for your understanding and partnership as we continue to ensure the clinic is available for students who truly need immediate care.
