Capitol Hill Weekly Update
9/25/26
Message from the Principal
What a wonderful Back to School Night! It was so much fun to see families filling our hallways, students proudly showing off their work, and so many babies! Our playground was absolutely bursting with community.
I’m especially grateful to our teachers and staff for everything it takes to bring a school back to life each fall. In just a few short weeks, they have built classroom communities, taught a million routines, learned who their students are, helped children learn how to be together, connected with families—and, in the middle of all of that, gotten some pretty amazing learning underway. Seeing students so excited to show their families what they’ve been doing was such a testament to that work.
And one of my favorite parts of the evening was hearing story after story from families about how much their children love coming to school. I never get tired of hearing that. Keep those stories coming—they mean so much, and they belong to the teachers and staff who are creating that experience for our kids every day.
Thank you to all of our families for making the time to be here, for sharing your children with us, and for the many ways you partner with us throughout the year. It was such a joy to have you in the building and to see our whole community together. We’re so grateful you’re part of Capitol Hill.
In service to students,
Febe Armendariz
Principal
Counselor Lessons Begin Next Week
Beginning next week, Mr. Martin and Ms. Erika will provide Tier I counselor lessons to all students during the first 20 minutes of library time. Lessons are designed for each grade level and will build skills throughout the year in areas such as emotional regulation, executive functioning, healthy relationships, conflict resolution, identity, and belonging. First-quarter topics include identifying and managing feelings, perseverance, flexibility, planning and organization, perspective taking, and personal safety.
We’re excited to build these important skills together as a school community!
Volunteer Training
A huge thank you to all the families who joined us for our first Volunteer Training! We appreciated not only your time, but the thoughtful conversation and your commitment to helping create a safe, caring community for all of our children. Volunteers sometimes find themselves navigating unexpected situations with students, so understanding our school expectations, boundaries, and procedures helps keep you and our students safe and supported. If you'd like to volunteer and haven't attended a training yet, please join us for our next session on Monday, October 5, from 8:15–9:15 a.m. We’d love to have you!
