VUSD Parent Message on Canvas of May 8, 2026

Date: May 8, 2026

Time: 1430h

Subject: District Cyber Security Update of May 8, 2026

To: All Parents

From: Shawn T. Loescher, EdD, Assistant Superintendent

Message:

To our learning community,

Our District learning management system is Canvas which has made national news for a security breach. Our District has been actively involved in monitoring this situation and taking all appropriate action to ensure that our student data is secure.

We have been notified that our VUSD Canvas system was not impacted during the national data breach. Out of an abundance of caution we have paused certain aspects of the Canvas system to ensure that we maintain the highest standards and precautions of our students' data.

Our school site leaders and their teams of talented teachers are making adjustments to these precautionary measures. Information about this situation will be updated on the home page of our Information Technology department which you can access by clicking here.

For our students,

Shawn T. Loescher, Ed.D.
Assistant Superintendent

Draw Along Assembly🧑🏻‍🎨

On Thursday, artist Mark Kistler led our students in art lessons. Every child had the opportunity to successfully draw pictures using simple shapes. Embedded in his art lessons were academic skills as children learned about symmetry and animal characteristics. We also learned to adopt an attitude of I CAN DO IT! We are grateful to Mr. Kistler for his positive attitude and for sharing his talents with us.

Mother’s Day

On Sunday, May 10th, we celebrate moms. This is a special day to spend time with loved ones. Some sweet books to share with your child are pictured below.

Tip for reading together: Cuddle up with your child, take turns reading, and invite your child to say one thing they love about their mom while you read.

Bobier Elementary School is part of the first cohort to become a community school in our school district in 2022. As a community school we are working to build partnerships with parents and community partners. This will help us serve the needs of our students. One example of a partnership in our community is Major General Murray High School. These high school students come to Bobier Elementary School every Friday to support our students in their literacy skills. We are very grateful for this partnership as it is making a difference in our students.
