News from Manchester Memorial Elementary School!

Principal's Note
Dear Memorial Families,
I want to extend a big "thank you" to all of the folks who helped us coordinate our Memorial Day ceremony today. Mrs. Seaman was the "wizard behind the curtain" who coordinated everything along with Bruce Heisey (US NAVY Veteran). We had an amazing group of veterans join us around the flagpole as our MERSD School Committee Chairperson, Mrs. Theresa Whitman, very eloquently explained the meaning of Memorial Day to our students, staff, and distinguished guests.
Thank you to our school committee and central office administrators who joined us as well. I am always so impressed with our students and how respectful they are during this tradition.
Our message to the students was that we hope they are able to take a little time to reflect on all that they are thankful for and to remember the sacrifices that were made so that we can live our lives the way we want to. Enjoy the time with your family!
Have a great weekend!
Best,
John
Elementary Art Show a Big Success
This past Thursday night the elementary students of Manchester Memorial and Essex Elementary had an opportunity to showcase all their hard work in art class this year. Pre-K through Grade 5 students from both schools had at least one piece of artwork on display. It was a wonderful showcase with over 500 pieces of artwork plus a fluorescent glow show in the middle school art room with grade 4 artwork. One of my grade 1 MMES students could not find their art work even though we looked and looked. It was not found until that night when I was taking the show down. Please note Ryan’s awesome rainbow umbrella painting on the bottom of one of the display boards. He worked so hard on this and I wanted to be sure he knew we all had a chance to see it. Great job Ryan, I'm so proud of you.

A note from Ms. Silag in the Library
It's that time of year when MMES kiddos need to return all the library books they have out. The classroom with the highest % of book returns by Friday, May 30th will win a popsicle party!
Overdue notices have been sent home. Please help your kiddo(s) find their books and send them into school any day of the week - doesn’t have to be their Library day. If you get a notice for a book that you know was returned, or was damaged or lost...please just send the overdue notice back to Ms. Silag with a note explaining the situation so she can make note of it on the library database.
Summer Lending for those interested, and who have returned all their books, will be the week of June 3rd for students who are currently in K - Gr 4.
Thank you for your help! It takes a village:)
-Ms. Silag

Health Room Updates
We are nearing the end of another school year. In the next week or two, I will be sending notes home to children who have medicines kept at school (inhalers, epi-pens, etc.). We are unable to keep medication over the summer. You can either pick it up or have it sent home in your child’s backpack.
5th Grade parents/caregivers, if your child has had their annual physical and you would like me to enter that information into the computer for transfer to middle school- please send to me
Physicals:
Current physical and immunization records are due for grades 1 and 4. Please do not make a new appointment. Send me the most current and then send me a copy of the new physical when it is completed.
Extra Clothing: ALL GRADE LEVELS
Occasionally a spilled drink, a fall in a puddle or even a ride down a wet slide occurs, if each child could have a change of clothing (head to toe) that would be great.
Just a few reminders:
1. If your child is going to be absent or arriving late, please call either 526-1909 or 526-1908 to let us know.
2. If your child has a temperature of 100. F or over, they need to be temperature free for 24 hours (without relying on Tylenol or Motrin) before re-entering the school.
3. If your child is experiencing diarrhea or vomiting, we recommend that they are symptom free for 24 hours and can tolerate solid food before they return
4. If your child has a contagious illness such as conjunctivitis or strep throat, it is the school policy that they are on medicine for 24 hours before re-entering the building.
5. PLEASE REMEMBER THAT ALL CLASSROOMS ARE PEANUT/NUT FREE
Thank you for your co-operation and continuing support.
