February Recap February Recap

Hello Extended Day Families,

As always, the month of February went by quite quickly! During the past several weeks, students and staff at each of the programs enjoyed working together while participating in many different gym games, clubs, and seasonal art projects. Also, the Walpole Extended Day team hosted our annual February Vacation Camp, which was lots of fun! This week, the warmer weather has reminded us that Spring is around the corner and each of the programs enjoyed spending more time outside during these days. Please make sure to see the rest of our newsletter below!

Boyden Extended Day Boyden Extended Day

Hello Boyden Families,

February has been an exciting month, here at Boyden Extended Day! Throughout the month, we created so many different crafts related to Kindness Week and Valentine's Day. One of our projects included crafting friendship bracelets to give to our peers. Also, for another craft, students made tissue paper hearts to display in the cafeteria. Most recently, students have been creating and decorating crowns with gems, pom poms, markers and more. Each of these projects have been a huge success and we are already looking forward to the new crafts that will be completed during the month of March!

In addition to our art projects, Boyden Extended Day has continued to participate in our favorite gym games throughout the month. Also, during this last week of February, the students had the chance to finally get outside and enjoy the beautiful weather! Everyone loved being outside and just having the chance to run around and get some exercise.

Stay tuned for some new and exciting activities planned for the month of March!

Elm Extended Day Elm Extended Day

Hello Elm Families,

Throughout the month of February, with the wonderful weather of New England, we have continued to organize many indoor activities at Extended Day. We completed many Valentine's Day crafts, games and continued participating in our Elm Street hallway games. These hallway activities consist of soccer, hockey, golf and cornhole.

This month, we also had a visit from a former Elm Street student, who has come for her second annual visit as a 7th grader now! She always comes back to say hello to old friends and staff.

Also, Elm Street has been doing an AMAZING job collecting pop tabs this year. As many of you may already know, if your student donates at least 10 pop tabs for the RMHC, then they earn a little token of appreciation from the Extended Day staff. Nice job, everyone!

Looking ahead towards the month of March, we will be going outside more and more as the weather permits. Please continue to send your students to Extended Day with weather appropriate clothing.

Fisher Extended Day Fisher Extended Day

Hello Fisher Families,

Program Highlights:

February was Kindness Month, at Fisher Extended Day. Students had the opportunity to complete coloring pages with hearts and kind messages. Then, these cards were delivered to other friends at the program. All of the students who participated in this activity really enjoyed making these cards, while other students were so happy to receive them!

Additionally, there many other art projects that we worked on throughout the month. For example, we made bracelets with beads, used diamond art to create animal stickers and we worked together to make a Valentine's Day poster. These activities were all great successes!

For our other indoor activities, students frequently played Battleship, Sorry, Monopoly and Hungry, Hungry Hippos! Most recently, a few of our students designed paper airplanes. After looking over some instructions and diagrams, students built their planes and tested them to see which ones could fly the furthest. Everyone worked together and had so much fun! Also, during the morning program, students continued to enjoy the talent show. Some of the acts included joke telling, acting, singing, creating balloon animals and playing songs on the recorder.

Lastly, students and staff organized many different movement activities throughout the month. Some of our favorite activities included hopscotch and an act-it-out activity, where students picked a topic or an object to act as. During these activities, students utilized lots of teamwork and creativity.

Announcements:

Fisher Extended Day is continuing to collect pop tabs until the end of the school year! So far, we are making some great progress and our jar is filling up fast. Keep up the great work, everyone!

OPR Extended Day OPR Extended Day

Hello OPR Families,

The month went by fast, but we continued to stay busy with plenty of indoor activities and games. Using our new donated puzzle matt, we completed our first 1,000 piece puzzle! Also, while spending time indoors, we continued to stay moving. We used our Wii weekly and Ms. Bridget brought in a new mini Celtics basketball net that we hang over a door in the cafeteria for some extra energy play, which has been as huge hit! Lastly, Ms. Michelle’s stretch and movement club has gotten the older students involved, while learning some new moves and creative exercises.

Also, another favorite activity continues to be our new Sticker Club, which provides students with the opportunity to be creative, such as making their own Valentine Day cards for their parents and working on creating an underwater scene with Ms. Sandi. Also, students with Ms. Danielle's Taylor Swift Club enjoyed painting wooden guitars with a variety of different colors to create their own unique styles.

We are still going strong collecting pop tabs for the Ronald McDonald Foundation. We are now working on filling our FOURTH bucket - amazing!

OPR was happy to see some familiar faces at the February Vacation Camp at Boyden and we are looking forward to the upcoming April Vacation Camp!

During the month of March, Mr. Marcos will be returning from college to work at Extended Day during his spring break. We are looking forward to seeing him! Moving forward, if the weather permits, we will try to go outside during the afternoon program. Please remind your students that they will be asked to wear a jacket while playing outside.
