Chelsea Center
Experiential Education Opportunities for ALL students
May 21, 2026
The Chelsea Center for Experiential Learning at Webster Groves High School is excited to work with students this summer who are participating in various off-campus regional experiences. Summer school programming through the Chelsea Center pairs attendance at the student’s chosen experience with goal setting, engagement with virtual assignments, and reflection. Together, the experience and the reflective coursework create the eligibility for WGHS academic elective credit to be earned.
Chelsea Center donor Glenn Detrick generously funds experiential learning at WGHS to further the legacy of his daughter Chelsea Detrick, WGHS class of 2003. Chelsea sadly passed away in 2009, and underwriting the cost of experiences such as these summer pursuits fulfills his wish that Chelsea’s joie de vivre live on through the reflection, exploration, and deep personal introspection WGHS students can access through experiential learning.
Our summer 2026 Chelsea Center students are pursuing an interesting, diverse, and fun array of experiences! Ninety four students are enrolled in our Chelsea Center travel, service learning, passion pursuit, and internship courses. They are traveling to Costa Rica and France; engaging in meaningful service learning through Mercy TLC, Ranken Jordan Pediatric Hospital, MOBOT, Freedom School, and Changemakers at the Missouri History Museum; interning at companies like Big Heart Tea Co. and Drop Collaborative; and pursuing passions through several universities and institutions.
Students interested in participating in Chelsea Center summer school next year should begin watching for information in morning announcements and on building screens beginning next January. Applications for summer programming will open in February and will close the week after Spring Break, 2027. Keep us in mind!
