What are the Arrival Procedures on the First Day of School?
When students arrive on the first day of school, they will go to the playground to meet their teacher. Each grade level will have a designated area for students to gather. There will be signs to mark the arrival areas for each grade level. We have assigned a color to each grade level:
- Kindergarten - Red
- 1st Grade - Orange
- 2nd Grade - Yellow
- 3rd Grade - Green
Staff and teachers will be on hand to help students find their class. Parents may also accompany their child to the playground and help them find their designated area. Please make sure your child is wearing their wristband. This will allow us to quickly assist students in finding their teacher.
How Does Daily Arrival and Dismissal Work?
Arrival Procedures
- Student Drop-Off time begins at 7:30 am. School starts at 8:00 am.
- Upon arrival, ALL students will enter the building, car riders through the main doors, and bus riders through the circle drive doors. Staff will be on hand to help students find their designated area.
- Once inside the building, students may eat breakfast in the cafeteria and then go outside to the playground. Students who do not want breakfast, will go straight to the playground.
- All students should be wearing their Name Bracelet that was sent in the mail for the first 2 days of school. This will help us quickly and safely assist your child in locating their teacher. If you did not receive a name bracelet, contact the office at 660-826-8087.
- Car Riders have 2 options during arrival time. The first option is for parents to remain in the car rider line and drop your child off at one of the 6 drop off spots. Staff members will assist students into the building from the car rider line. The second option is to park and walk your child to the main entrance. Please be aware that parking is very limited.
- Bus riders start arrive between 7:30-7:45 am.
Dismissal Procedures:
Car Riders:
- Parents who are picking up students after school are encouraged to stay in their cars. This will help reduce overcrowding in the pick up areas.
- After entering the parking lot, parents should remain in the car line.
- There will be 6 pick up spots. Parents should park in an available pick up spot. A staff member will deliver your child to your car.
- All parents should display the Car Visor Signs so that staff can quickly and safely locate your child. Car visor signs will be available for pick up during Open House.
- Parents who walk up to the dismissal doors should also hold up their Car Visor Sign so teachers can quickly release students.
Classes will be staggered during dismissal at these times:
- Kindergarten- 3:07 from the gym doors (look for sign)
- First Grade- 3:10 from front entrance
- Second and Third Grades- 3:12 from front entrance
Bus Riders will remain in the classroom until their bus arrives.
Bikers and Walkers will be escorted to the crosswalk on 32nd Street by a staff member.
Boys and Girls Club students will report to the cafeteria for check-in.
What If I Need to Pick My Child Up From School Early or Check Them In Late?
- If you need to check your child out of school early, you will need to walk up to the main entrance, buzz the intercom and request your child be released.
- Be prepared to show ID so we can verify you are authorized to pick up the student.
- The student will check out with the office staff and then walk out the front entrance to the parent.
- If your child needs to check in late, simply walk him/her to the front door, buzz the intercom, state the reason for being late, and the student will be allowed to enter the building.
What if I need to change the way my child will be getting home?
You must contact the front office with transportation changes for your child. For example, if your child is normally a bus rider, but you are going to pick them up from school, you must call us and report the change in transportation. If we do not receive notification from the parent, we will send the child home as you indicated on the transportation form. Our office number is 660-826-8087.
What If My Child Is Sick?
- Call the school office to report an absence at 660-826-4947.
- Monitor symptoms closely and keep your child at home if they are sick.
- The school nurse will call you to pick up your child if they are running a fever or have other symptoms that persist throughout the day. Typically, if a student visits the nurse's office 2-3 times with the same symptoms, the nurse will contact you.
