Welcome Back to School Letter 💌
Dear ABIS Families, Parents, and Friends:
With great excitement and anticipation, we welcome our new 5th-grade students and our returning 6th, 7th, and 8th graders to Alexander Batcho Intermediate School (ABIS). ABIS is a special place that provides outstanding opportunities for students to grow academically, physically, emotionally, and socially.
I look forward to welcoming all of our students back on Tuesday, September 8th, which will be an early dismissal day. Please note that dismissal on early dismissal days is at 12:55 PM.
Middle school is a critical time of transition between elementary and high school—a period when students begin to explore their identities and seek a sense of purpose and belonging. At ABIS, our mission is to provide meaningful opportunities that keep students engaged, supported, and challenged. We believe every child holds limitless potential and is a true gift, deserving of the guidance and encouragement needed to thrive.
By working together as a school community, we can help our students develop their unique strengths and prepare them for continued success well beyond their middle school years.
We wish all of our students a very successful 2026-2027 school year!
Sincerely,
Michael Magliacano
Principal
ABIS First Day INFO!
Bell Schedule
The school day begins at 8:00 AM and concludes at 2:50PM. Students should plan on arriving by 7:50am each school day. Breakfast is available before school starting at 7:40 AM. To support our students and maintain a safe environment in the hallways, we have extended the passing time between classes to four minutes.
Morning Drop Off Update
We would like to remind our families to follow the designated morning drop-off route at ABIS. Please note that the Manville Police Department actively enforces the borough ordinance against stopping or standing along the curb of N. 13th Avenue, from the main Manville High School staff parking lot entrance down to the lot near the athletic fields. Thank you for helping us keep traffic moving smoothly and safely.
Students may be dropped off in two designated areas:
- Along the curbline next to the athletic fields, past the ABIS main entrance.
- Across the street on the Christ the King Church side, along the curbline.
Please do not stop or let children exit your vehicle in the middle of the street under any circumstance, as this creates a serious safety hazard for students and drivers alike. We appreciate your cooperation in following these guidelines to ensure the safety of all students during morning arrival.
On the first day of school, 5th and 6th-grade students should gather outside the student entrance near the ball fields, where they will be welcomed by ABIS staff and directed to their classrooms. In the event of inclement weather, these students will meet their homeroom teachers in the Gymnasium.
7th and 8th-grade students should report directly to their first-period class upon arrival.
Please note, ABIS students are not permitted to enter through Manville High School to access ABIS.Cell Phone Guidelines
- Cell phones must be turned off upon entering the school and remain off until students are dismissed at the end of the day.
- Phones must be stored securely in a backpack, school bag, or locker—not in clothing pockets or on a student's person.
- Cell phones may not be used in any area of the school building including classrooms, the Cafeteria, Gymnasium, recess area, restrooms or any common area.
Any misuse of personal devices or violation of the school’s cell phone policy will result in disciplinary action, as outlined in the ABIS Student Handbook. We appreciate your support in helping maintain a focused, respectful, and distraction-free learning environment.
The Parent Portal is open for parents to complete all required updates. In order to obtain your child’s homeroom/schedule for the new school year, you will need to complete the appropriate forms and documents on the Genesis Parent Portal. Homerooms and schedules will populate in the Parent Portal on August 24, 2026

Welcoming our Newest Learners: ABIS New Student Orientation
We are excited to share that this year’s New Student Orientation was an outstanding success! Held earlier this week, the event welcomed our incoming 5th grade students and newly registered families with a warm, engaging, and informative experience.
The orientation began with a heartfelt welcome from our staff, followed by an opportunity for students to meet their teachers for the upcoming school year. This first introduction helped ease any first‑day nerves and allowed students to begin building meaningful connections with the educators who will guide them throughout the year.
Students then participated in a guided tour of the building, giving them the chance to explore key areas such as classrooms, the cafeteria, gymnasium, main office, and other important spaces. Staff members and student volunteers were stationed throughout the building to answer questions and help students feel comfortable and confident navigating their new environment.
To foster community and teamwork, students enjoyed a variety of fun, interactive team‑building activities. These games encouraged collaboration, communication, and new friendships—setting a positive tone for a successful year ahead.
While students explored and participated in activities, parents attended an informative session led by Mr. Magliacano. He shared important updates regarding school policies, support services, academic expectations, and ways families can stay connected throughout the year. Parents appreciated the opportunity to ask questions and gain clarity on how to best support their child’s transition.
We are thrilled with how smoothly this year’s orientation ran and are confident that our new students are beginning the school year feeling welcomed, prepared, and excited. Here’s to a fantastic year ahead!
