The LittleJudges LedgerSeptember 28 - October 2, 2026

Dear Virginia Avenue Families,

It’s hard to believe we’ll be heading into October this week! We are already approaching the end of the first quarter, and our Little Judges are making great progress. Students are working hard, building new skills, and continuing to grow as learners.

🎉 Hispanic Heritage Spirit Week!

We’re excited to continue celebrating Hispanic Heritage Month at Virginia Avenue! We have several spirit days coming up.

  • 🌎 Monday, September 28: Wear the colors of your country’s flag.
  • ⚽ Wednesday, September 30: Sport your favorite Hispanic athlete's jersey.
  • 💃 Friday, October 2: Wear traditional dress or an outfit that represents your culture.

Let’s fill our hallways with color, culture, and pride as we celebrate the many backgrounds represented in our Virginia Avenue community. ❤️

📸 Picture Day is Tuesday!

  • 📅 Tuesday, September 29
  • 👕 Come to school ready for your school picture.
  • 😁 Bring your best Little Judge smile!

🧹 Custodian Appreciation Day – October 2!

This Friday is Custodian Appreciation Day, and we want to give a HUGE thank you to our incredible custodial team! They work tirelessly behind the scenes to keep VACDES clean, beautiful, safe, and running smoothly every day.

If you see one of our custodians this week, be sure to give them a smile, a thank you, or a high five and let them know just how much their hard work matters to our school! 💙

👩‍🏫 Parent-Teacher Conferences

  • 📅 Thursday, October 8
  • ⏰ 3:00–6:00 p.m.
  • 💬 Conferences are a great opportunity to hear about your child’s progress, celebrate successes, and talk with their teacher about goals for continued growth.
  • 📩 Be on the lookout for information from your child’s teacher about scheduling a conference.

📚 Scholastic Book Fair is Coming!

  • 📅 Monday, October 5–Friday, October 9
  • 📖 Students will have opportunities to visit the Book Fair during the school week.
  • 👨‍👩‍👧 The Book Fair will also be open during Parent-Teacher Conferences on Thursday, October 8—a great time to stop by and shop together!
  • 🎒 Look for a letter coming home in your child’s backpack with more information about the Book Fair.

🏔️ Keep Climbing!

Thank you for another great week of learning, growing, and working together. Have a wonderful week, Little Judges!

🏠 School to Home: Talk About Learning

Asking your child about their school day helps them reflect on what they’re learning—and gives you a better picture than asking, “How was school?” This week, try one of these questions:

  • 🧠 What is something you know now that you didn’t know at the beginning of the year?
  • ⭐ What is something at school you feel really proud of?
  • 💪 What is something that is still challenging for you?
  • 🏔️ What is one thing you want to get better at before the end of the first quarter?

You might be surprised by what you learn when you ask a different question!
