SUMMER READING @JC: PICTURE YOURSELF READING!

We would love to see where our JC readers are reading this summer! PLEASE take a picture (your child's, family's,...) and send to me at esra_murray@greenwich.k12.ct.us! At the end of summer, we will share all of the photographs with our readers in our building!

In this Summer Reading edition, I have included information on:

  • Our local Summer Reading Programs,
  • Reading lists compiled by your Greenwich Public Schools Library Media Specialists,
  • Next year's Battle of the Books and Nutmeg Book Award selections, and
  • Greenwich Public Schools Seamless Summer Learning program.

Read! Inspire! Read more!

Have a wonderful summer!

Mrs. Murray

SUMMER READING @Greenwich Public Library

Remember back in September when we found out that Julian Curtiss readers took the lead in Greenwich Public Library's summer reading program, and that five of the top ten scorers in the program go to Julian Curtiss? Also remember we had the 4th highest number of students registered for summer reading AND of those students, we logged the most minutes of reading of any other school?

Well, it's time for an encore! Let's make the Summer 2022 our year one more time!

Please use the link below to sign up for Children's Summer Reading Program at Greenwich Public Library. If (or should I say when) we win at the end of Summer, we will recognize the readers at our school!

Next year, our 5th graders will once again have the opportunity to participate in the district wide Battle of the Books program (BoB).

GPS elementary Library Media Specialists have chosen ten books (see below) for kids to read; we encourage students to start their reading journey in the summer.

Most of the titles are available through the Greenwich Public Library, including Perrot, Cos Cob and Byram Shubert. They will also be available in the fall through our school library.

SUMMER READING: 2023 NUTMEG NOMINEES for Grades 2-5

We hosted our first Nutmeg Book Bowl this year- in self-selected groups, students in grades 4 and 5 read from a selection of Intermediate Nutmeg Book Award Nominees and competed to showcase their understanding of each book.

We are anticipating to hold it again in Late Winter/Spring 2023, so this summer can be a great launching pad to start reading high-quality literature. Please see both Elementary and Intermediate nominees below.
