ELA Interim Grades 3-5
Important Reminder: ELA Testing Tomorrow for Grades 3-5
Dear Fairfax Families,
Students in grades 3-5 will take their interim assessments this week. These assessments provide valuable insights for staff and students as we prepare for the upcoming Ohio State Tests in April. Tomorrow, students in grades 3-5 will take the English Language Arts (ELA) test. Please ensure your child arrives on time, well-rested, and has a good breakfast—either at home or with enough time to eat at school before testing begins.
This test includes multiple-choice and written response questions. While most questions are worth one point, the written responses are worth 10 points. Our goal is for every student to earn at least 6 points on their written response. Students can earn 2 points in each of the following categories:
- Purpose – Clearly stated main idea or opinion, staying on topic throughout the essay.
- Organization – Logical order with an introduction and conclusion.
- Evidence – Strong and specific details supporting their response.
- Elaboration & Length – Five paragraphs, with 3-5 sentences in each.
- Conventions – Proper spelling, punctuation, capitalization, and grammar.
In the morning, please encourage your child to remember their goals from our meeting last Friday and aim to score 6 or better on their writing response. Reviewing these key points with them would be a great way to support their success!
As a reminder, 📝 Interim Testing for Grades 3-5 schedule is as follows:
- Tuesday, March 12 – ELA (Grades 3-5)
- Wednesday, March 13 – Science (Grade 5 only)
- Thursday, March 14 – Math (Grades 3-5)
Thank you for your partnership, and we look forward to seeing all students ready to do their best tomorrow!
Best,
Dr. Walker,
Principal, Fairfax Elementary School
