Hi Friends,

We're very pleased to announce that we have four new Instructional Assistants on our campus: Nathan - room 22; Sade - room 18; Alyona - room 8; Tahmina - room 31. As you happen to see them working with our students, please help them to feel welcomed on our campus. They are already off to a great start collaborating with our staff and supporting our students.

I have some amazing news to share with you! The District has decided to remodel our campus. They plan on spending $25 million to update our site. To begin this process, the District has hired 19six as the architect who will design the structure/determine what/how to remodel. Capital Program Management is the Program Manager for the project who will make sure that things are moving ahead according to schedule. We are in the very early stages of this process. The architects are starting to meet with groups of people on campus and will be reaching out to our parent/guardian group soon. They have walked the site a few times and used a drone to take pictures from above. I wanted to give you advanced notice, so that you could begin to consider what improvements/challenges that you see at our school. Your input will be very important to this process. I'm told that since we are pretty much a year-round site, that construction could take up to four years, and it will be done in phases, so that as little disruption to our students is possible will take place. Please look for an invitation to share your input in the near future.

We are very excited to have a new partnership with Dr. D'Angelo, from CSUS, who is collaborating with our staff on swallow studies for some of our students. She has provided training to our staff and an awareness that will help to keep our students safe as they are eating.

Another very exciting partnership that is just beginning to blossom is with California North State University Dental Program. Our hope is that we can assist students with comfort as they attend future dental appointments and enable them to visit the dentist without having to be sedated.

M.O.V.E. Moment M.O.V.E. Moment

M.O.V.E. stands for Mobility Opportunities Via Education/Experience and is a San Juan sponsored activity-based program designed to teach children with severe disabilities the functional motor skills needed to sit, stand, and walk as independently as possible. We have students and staff working very hard on this every day!

Meet Nate! Nate has been working on walking in a gait trainer, and now walking with 2 hands held. He started this journey by practicing sit-to-stand movements, gradually bearing more and more weight, and now walking. So much progress and such a superstar. Way to go Nate!
