Ms. Griffith and Ms. Wingo are finishing up the classrooms this week to reviewing Colonial's Student Code of Conduct. Each class will have a presentation to review PLV and Colonial expectations. After students have the presentation, they will bring home the Code of Conduct Acknowledgement form for Parents/Guardidans to review and sign. On the form, parents need to check one of two boxes: if they want to review Colonial's Code of Conduct online at Colonial's website, or if they want an actual copy of the book, which comes in English and Spanish. Parents then sign, under their child's name and return the acknowledgement to their child's teacher.
This year, we want to be more consistent across all grade levels about sending homework home for students to engage in independent practice of reading, writing, and math skills that they learn throughout the week. We value your feedback as we start to create a plan. Please complete this
**Safe Shoes Reminder: It is important that your child wears proper safe shoes to school. Shoes should be worn that have a closed toe and heel. Crocs, flip flops, sandals, slippers should not be worn. Wearing these kind of shoes is not safe for gym class or playing on the recess equipment and playing soccer, basketball, etc.
**Early Dismissal Reminder: NO STUDENT DISMISSAL CHANGES will be made after 3:00 PM. If you call/email/dojo message after 3:00 PM, your child will go home his/her usual way (bus, daycare, walker, car rider) These changes interfere with teacher instruction and student learning.
PLEASE make sure that your child knows how they are getting home: Bus, Walker, Car Rider or Before/After Care. Please send your child's teacher a Class DoJo message or call the Main Office to change a dismissal (before 3:00).
Morning Walkers need to stand by grade band behind the orange cones in the morning. The cones are labeled k/1, 2/3 and 4/5. Staff will open the doors at 8:45. Parents must stay with their child as there is NO SUPERVISION prior to 8:45.
Car riders will stay in their cars until staff come out. At 8:45, staff will signal to start letting students out of the cars. Cars that are only in the "Cone Zone" should be let out. Once all the students are safely on the sidewalk, staff will move one car line at a time. Once both lines are stopped, the staff will signal for the next set of cars to let students out of their cars.
You also may have received your access information for the Infinite Campus Parent Portal. Once you do, you MUST go into the Parent Portal and add any Emergency Contacts for your child into the system, as these did not transfer over from the previous information system. This should be completed by Sept 11th - Open House. Also, please check to make sure the correct email and phone numbers are listed. You can update these as well in the new Infinite Campus Parent Portal. If your physical address is incorrect, you will have to contact the new Central Registration Office to update. We can no longer do this at the school level. If you need any help, please your this form: https://form.jotform.com/252254619385059
Kind Regards & Stay Well,

Pleasantville's Vision & Mission
At Pleasantville Elementary School, we are committed to creating a safe, welcoming, and joyful community where every student feels valued, included, and empowered to grow academically, socially, and emotionally. Our mission is to equip students with the knowledge, skills, and character they need to succeed in school and in life, helping them become curious thinkers, resilient problem-solvers, and compassionate friends who are prepared for the challenges ahead. Through strong academic instruction in reading, math, and writing, science and social studies as well as intentional teaching of empathy, respect, and responsibility, we nurture the whole child. We build a learning environment that feels like home, sounds kind and respectful, and looks joyful and engaging, where students and staff support one another and celebrate diversity. Together with our families and community, we foster a school culture where every student is encouraged to take risks, ask for help, and persevere through challenges. At Pleasantville, we believe learning should be meaningful, kindness should lead the way, and every child should leave knowing they are capable of living happy, safe, and productive lives—ready to make a positive difference in the world.

PLV Equity Focus
At Pleasantville Elementary, we are committed to creating an inclusive and welcoming school community. Each month we will share updates about our equity work and school-wide activities with families. These updates will be posted on ClassDojo and in Ms.Griffith's newsletters, so you can easily stay connected to the important work we are doing together.
🌟 September Equity Spotlight: Creating Safe Spaces at PLV 🌟
This month, our equity focus is on creating a safe and welcoming space for every student. We believe that when children feel seen, heard, and respected, they are better able to learn and grow.
To celebrate each child’s identity, all students will take part in a “Name Jar” activity. Each student will decorate a jar with their name and share the story or meaning behind it. This helps our school community understand the importance of saying names correctly and honoring the unique identities that make us who we are.
At Home Connection
We invite you to talk with your child about the story behind their name. You can share why you chose it, what it means to your family, or any special traditions connected to it. These conversations will help your child feel confident sharing their story at school and remind them that their name and identity are important.
Together, we will continue building a school where every student feels safe, valued, and included. ♥️

School Updates & Alerts
Pleasantville uses the School Messenger application via email/text as our way to communicate with families. If you have changed your phone numbers/email or home addresses, please contact our secretary, Jaimie Spadea, with your newest contact information. Jaimie.Spadea@colonial.k12.de.us or 302-323-2935.
This information is very important because we use this application to let you know about any school closures, upcoming events or emergency situations. You can also download the app for your iPhone or Android.
Classroom Teacher & Staff Communication
PLV Staff uses Class DoJo to share agendas for the week, pictures, events and classroom stories of the exciting things that are happening in your child's class. Once connected, they will be able to send you direct private messages and you will be able to do the same. Admin and support staff (Nurse, SEC, Counselor, etc) will also be linked to their homeroom pages. Once the teachers create their new class page (the week of August 19th) they will send you an invite to join their class and the school. Teachers will then approve all connections.

Your child can get free, high-quality care, that's safe and convenient.
How much does a visit cost?
If your child doesn't have insurance, their care is free. If your child has insurance, the school-based health center will file a claim directly. (Note: No co-pay, co-insurance or deductible will be charged to you).
Who runs the SBHC?
Your child's school-based health center is a partnership between their school district, Nemours Children’s Health and the Delaware Division of Public Health. These three organizations work together to run the center.
