As we continue to recognize and honour the service and sacrifices of those who have served our country, we invite families to join us for our Remembrance Day Assembly on Tuesday, November 10 at 9:00 am at Black Mountain Elementary School.

This assembly provides an important opportunity for our students to reflect on the meaning of remembrance, learn about Canada's military history, and express gratitude for the courage and commitment of veterans and active service members. Students have been preparing thoughtfully for this occasion, and we look forward to coming together as a school community in recognition of this important day.

We would also like to extend our sincere thanks to the many family and community members who joined us for our Indigenous Veterans Day Assembly today. Your presence helped make the event especially meaningful as we learned about and honoured the contributions and sacrifices of Indigenous veterans.

We hope you are able to join us on November 10 as we gather in remembrance and gratitude.

Thank you for your continued support.

We would like to extend warm wishes to all of our students, families, and staff who will be celebrating Diwali this weekend.

Known as the Festival of Lights, Diwali is celebrated by millions of people around the world and symbolizes the triumph of light over darkness, good over evil, and hope over despair. Families and communities may celebrate with special prayers, gatherings, traditional foods, decorations, and the lighting of lamps and candles.

At Black Mountain Elementary School, we value the rich diversity of our community and the opportunities we have to learn from one another's traditions and experiences. We encourage students to share their stories and celebrations with classmates as we continue to build understanding, respect, and appreciation for different cultures and traditions.

To all those celebrating, we wish you a joyful and meaningful Diwali filled with happiness, peace, and time with family and friends. Happy Diwali!

Our music teacher, Ms. Yamamoto, would like to invite families to save the date for our upcoming Winter Concert!

Students have been working hard in music classes and are excited to share songs that help celebrate the holiday season. This special event will provide an opportunity for students to showcase their learning and celebrate together as a school community. Along with musical performances, students will share poems, stories, and some of their favourite memories from the year.

To help accommodate our families, performances will be divided alphabetically by student last name:

Over the coming days, students will be bringing home their artwork and information for our annual Created By Kids PAC fundraiser. Families will have the opportunity to view their child's artwork and, if they choose, purchase a variety of keepsake items featuring their child's creation.

This fundraiser is a wonderful way to celebrate our students' creativity while supporting our school community. Order information and instructions will be included with the artwork that comes home. Artwork is scheduled to be sent home on or before November 10, and families will have until November 18 to return the original artwork to the school if placing an order.

We are grateful to our PAC for organizing this opportunity and for their ongoing support of our students and school. We encourage families to keep an eye on backpacks for artwork and fundraiser information coming home soon

We would like to congratulate our Grade 5 Volleyball Team on a fantastic season! Throughout the season, our student-athletes demonstrated tremendous teamwork, sportsmanship, perseverance, and school spirit. They represented Black Mountain Elementary with pride and should be very proud of all they accomplished both on and off the court.

A special thank you goes to our dedicated coaches, Miss Folk, Mrs. Yamamoto, Miss Spannier, Mrs. Pucci, and Mrs. Whittle, for the time, energy, and commitment they invested in supporting our students. Their encouragement, guidance, and enthusiasm helped make this season a wonderful experience for everyone involved.

We would also like to thank our families for their support throughout the season. Your encouragement from the sidelines helped create a positive and memorable experience for our players.

As we celebrate the conclusion of volleyball season, we are already looking ahead to our next opportunity in school athletics. Basketball season will begin in January, and we look forward to seeing many of our students continue to develop their skills, teamwork, and love of sport on the court.

Congratulations again to our players and coaches on a successful volleyball season!
