FOR PARENTS ONLY

(Students will see video at a later date in class.)

Dear Parent/Guardian:

Your are invited to attend the "PARENT PREVIEW" of the pre-adolescent growth and development films, in accordance with Section 51550 of the Education Code. These films are for 4th grade girls and 5th & 6th grade girls and boys. School Nurses will be present to discuss the program and answer your questions. For the "Buchanan High" area schools, the films will be shown on the following date, time and location.

DATE/TIME LOCATION

Tuesday, February 25, 2025 at 6:00 PM - Tarpey Elementary MPR

2700 Minnewawa Ave, Clovis CA 93612

6:00 PM 4th Grade Girls

β€œJust Around the Corner for Girls" is a film to help younger elementary girls understand puberty and the physical changes that lie β€œjust around the corner.” With the assistance of whimsical animated figures, the film talks about the onset of puberty, the physical changes during puberty, menstruation, and the importance of good hygiene and healthy habits. It will also help them to realize that the physical changes they are experiencing are normal and will help to create their new and unique identity as they grow toward adulthood.

6:20 PM - 5th Grade Girls

"Growing Up for Girls" is an upbeat video that will help promote self-confidence as girls face the challenges of change and growth. The video offers clear, authoritative information about the female reproductive systems, the emotional and physical transformations of puberty and the importance of good health and hygiene

6:40 PM - 5th Grade Boys

β€œGrowing Up for Boys” is a video that will help ease the growing pains boys try to cope with on the physical and psychological changes that are a normal part of growing up. This video will look at the basics of male anatomy and development and will encourage boys to take pride in their uniqueness.

7:00 PM - 6th Grade Girls and Boys

"We’re Growing Up" is a video with a lively cast of young teenagers, both male and female who will discuss growth patterns from conception through adolescence and provide a review of male and female anatomy and sexual development, emphasizing responsible choices.

The Positivity Project The Positivity Project

zoom_out_map
The Positivity Project (P2) is an organization whose mission is to empower students to build positive relationships and become their best selves Positive psychology’s 24 character strengths serve as its foundation. Ranging from bravery and perseverance to integrity and gratitude, the character strengths are classified and described in the 800-page book Character Strengths and Virtues. These strengths aren’t about ignoring the negative. Instead, they help us overcome life’s inevitable adversities.
Students who complete the Tiger Challenge (Pre K-2nd Grade = Reflection Journal in class, 3rd-6th Grade = Google Classroom activity with code y7tcpal) have a chance to be the Tiger of the Week. Anyone can nominate a student or staff member who was Caught with Character for showing Tiger PRIDE or a Positivity Project character strength here: https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSe_lbQ0dPTzl57TKo5HXV8QHgZqsSCaYP6zd0bMNN0PsYjQew/viewform

The Century PTC sponsors the Birthday Book Club for the library. Any student who would like to participate may come to the library and purchase a book from a selection to donate to our Century library. This program has been very exciting for the students at Century. They enjoy being the first to check out their book, seeing their pictures on the birthday wall, and checking out books that have been donated by their friends.

In recognition of your donation, a label will be placed inside the front of the book, we will add your picture to our birthday wall in the library, and your donation will be acknowledged during morning announcements. At the end of each month, the names of students who participated in the Birthday Book Club will be printed in the Century Bulletin.

We will send a reminder about the Birthday Club to students the month of their birthday. This program is voluntary. If you have any questions please call Mrs. Cordova in the library at (559) 327-8482.

If you have a birthday in the summer and would like to join the Birthday Book Club, please stop by the library for information.
