ThoughtExchange: 2025-26 District Calendar Considerations- Feedback Requested

As we continue planning for and building our District Calendar for the 2025-2026 academic year, we have reconvened the District Calendar Committee for its fourth straight year. The committee members include district and building administration, faculty, and staff, School Board members, and members of the Parent and Student Advisory Committees.

The purpose of this committee is to establish a focus, parameters, considerations, and timeline to drive the construction, content, and flow of our District Calendar. To further develop the 2025-2026 calendar, we are asking for your feedback on the following areas: (1) Winter break; (2) Spring break; and (3) The end of the school year

The Thoughtexchange survey can be accessed by clicking this link https://tejoin.com/scroll/462768709 or scanning this QR Code.

Please note - participants needing this Exchange in a different language will have the ability to choose that language as a drop-down option once in the Exchange. As you rank the options and provide your rationale, please take into account the following factors:

  • Committee Goals:

    • Maintaining continuity of student learning to improve student learning and growth

    • Maintaining continuity of professional learning to improve student learning and growth

    • Compliance with the CEA Collective Bargaining Agreement to improve student learning and growth

    • Compliance with local, state, and federal requirements to improve student learning and growth

    • Mirror the prior year’s Calendar & Review Considerations for Changes to improve student learning and growth

  • Centennial's Continued Increase in Student Academic Performance

We value your perspective and opinions and are asking that you participate in this survey to collect input from a variety of sources to inform our decision-making. Please remember that the feedback we are requesting is NOT a voting process. It is intended to gather feedback, themes, topics, and ideas that will be a part of the committee’s review and discussion around the Calendar recommendations.

This exchange will be open until Tuesday, February 4 at 11:59 pm.

Thank you for participating in this important conversation!

Centennial School District Martin Luther King, Jr. Day of Service

On Monday, January 20th, students, families, and staff from across the Centennial School District came together for an inspiring day of service at Klinger Middle School, honoring the legacy of Martin Luther King, Jr. Together, we packed an impressive two hundred fifty bags for the Centennial Farmers Market at Klinger, fueled by the generosity of families from Davis, Klinger, and Log College who donated over 1,500 canned goods!

In addition to our food packing efforts, we crafted uplifting and encouraging cards to accompany the get-well bags being assembled by students at McDonald for individuals with cancer undergoing chemotherapy. This act of kindness truly embodies the spirit of community service.

Our day was graced by the participation of Scouts from Troops 172g and 280, who led us in a heartfelt opening ceremony and Pledge of Allegiance, concluding with a touching closing ceremony. Their teamwork and dedication brought honor and dignity to this meaningful day.

A special thanks goes out to our Home and School Association for providing delicious coffee and snacks for our volunteers! These tasty treats kept us warm and energized throughout the event.

As Martin Luther King, Jr. once said, "Life's most persistent and urgent question is, 'What are you doing for others?'" This day of service exemplified our commitment to supporting one another and uplifting our community.

Thank you to everyone who participated and contributed to making this day a success! Let's continue to celebrate and promote community service together!

Jr. Model UN Field Trip to the Philadelphia Museum of Art

This year Klinger started the Jr. Model United Nations Club. Students will attend three conferences this year. The first one will be held at the Philadelphia Art Museum and the remaining two will be at Temple University. Students will address real-world challenges as United Nations delegates. Each student is assigned a country to represent and a global issue to research. Students will focus their research on two United Nations Sustainable Development Goals: Goal 5 – Achieving Gender Equality and Goal 16 – Promoting Peaceful and Inclusive Societies. During the final Conference, students act as delegates in the United Nations General Assembly.

Recently, the 17 members of the Log College MS Jr. Model United Nations Club took an exciting field trip to the Philadelphia Museum of Art, where they had the opportunity to view collections of artwork from around the world. This trip served as the initial step in participating in the Jr. Model United Nations experience. The exhibits helped build an understanding of global cultures, which is a vital piece when participating in the Jr. Model United Nations Club.

During the visit, students worked in groups to analyze the different art pieces, learning how art reflects the values, beliefs, and histories of different societies. The students particularly liked the Japanese Tea House, the Medieval Armour Room, and early American artifacts. After the museum tour, all schools gathered together to discuss their findings and to make connections with their own cultures.

Our next field trip is to Temple University in March to learn about diplomacy. Included will be how to be a representative for their assigned country and propose resolutions to meet goals set by the United Nations for the world.

Panther Writing Lab Helping Seniors

Write Now, Save Later

By: Nina Fox ‘25 and Briena Zenszer ‘25

The Class of 2025 Scholarship Booklet is now available in Canvas and Naviance for seniors to review. This booklet lists over 40 different scholarships sponsored by community groups that college-bound seniors can apply for. Most applications for these scholarships require an essay, letters of recommendation, and deadlines for submission. The Booklet provides an overview of all scholarships and also gives in-depth criteria for each scholarship so students can see if they qualify. Naviance is where students can actually begin the application and see the deadlines.

At the start of the second semester, “senioritis” and “senior slide” may have already begun. The majority of seniors are probably still recovering from the exhaustion of submitting college applications along with the challenging college essay. However, now is not the time to quit. Although the college admissions process was long and tiring, seniors need to realize that applying for a scholarship is well-worth the effort if their writing earns them money towards college expenses. To help motivate seniors to take advantage of this available money, the Panther Writing Lab will hold workshops to assist students with brainstorming, discussing ideas, and drafting yet another essay

The student mentors of the Panther Writing Lab in the WTHS Library can offer seniors a jump start. This process affects almost every senior who is torn between finding an easy way out or preparing themselves for the rest of their life. Many fun events this season may distract seniors from worrying about future debt, but the last thing one should do is push off scholarship opportunities.

Writing workshops to help seniors draft the application essays will be hosted during all three lunches on February 5th and 6th, as well as on March 5th and 6th in the Panther Writing Lab. Any senior who doesn’t know where to begin writing a scholarship essay should attend. The writing lab mentors will assist seniors with any phase of the writing process: brainstorming, drafting, editing, and/or narrowing down words. Scholarships of any amount are helpful in defraying the cost of college, so hopefully members of the senior class will see that writing pays off.

Annual WIDA ACCESS (Assessing Comprehension and Communication in English State-to-State) testing

On January 7, 2025, the Centennial School District began the annual WIDA ACCESS (Assessing Comprehension and Communication in English State-to-State) testing window for our English Learners (ELs). The WIDA ACCESS is a PDE mandated and federally reported assessment of English Language Proficiency (ELP). The families of our English learners should have received a individual email communication regarding the assessment from our Supervisor of Teaching & Learning, Althea Tomlinson.

The WIDA ACCESS assessment is an important tool that guides the individualized instruction of our English learners. If you have any questions about the assessment, you can reach out directly to your child’s English Language Development (ELD) teacher.

If your child is an English Learner, here are some things you can do to help your child prepare for the WIDA ACCESS:

  • Be sure your child/children are receiving an adequate amount of sleep during the testing dates

  • Be sure your child/children eat breakfast each morning before testing

  • Be sure your child/children bring their school issued electronic device fully charged to school every day

  • Encourage your child do their very best on the assessment

Round Up to Support Feeding School Kids

Centennial's Food & Nutrition Department is again partnering with GIANT Food Stores to help support our students facing food insecurity. We encourage the greater community to participate in this effort.

From January 1 through March 31, everyone who shops at GIANT in Warminster or Upper Southampton will be invited to "round-up" at the register and donate the round-up amount of their bill to support Feeding School Kids. Customers can also give by converting their CHOICE Rewards Points to donations in the GIANT app or purchasing a reusable bag.

We ask our school community to help spread the word about the Feeding School Kids 2025 Campaign to ensure its success. Our goal is to support the children in our district who need the most help accessing nutritious meals and snacks. From backpacks with weekend food to clearing lunch debt to building a community pantry in our schools, the funds will be provided directly to our district's food organization for use, at our discretion, to address food insecurity in our school community.

Please join us in supporting and advocating for this initiative to help ensure no child in our district experiences hunger at school or home.
