Mill Creek Principal Update

Dear Mill Creek families,

We are excited to welcome back all of our new and old Cougars for a rockin'' school year! It was fabulous to see everyone on Thursday night at Meet the Teacher Night. Thank you to all of our new families who made a point of stopping by to introduce yourselves. The energy was incredibly positive!

If you weren't able to join us on Thursday, you can still call the Main Office today at 573.214.3280 to find out the name and room number of your child's teacher. We will have lots of adults in the hallways tomorrow to help any students who are feeling unsure about where to go.

If you will be participating in parent drop-off or pickup, be sure to watch the video linked below. We have a very specific process that requires everyone to cooperate and pay close attention to the teachers and staff who are directing traffic. Patience is a virtue, especially the first few days as all our new families become familiar with the process.

We have wonderful news to share about our MAP testing results. Our goal last year was to raise both our math and language arts scores by 3%. Preliminary results show our math scores rose from 67% to 70% proficient, and our language arts scores rose from 66.3% proficient to 72.6% proficient! We were particularly happy with math, as we implemented a new curriculum resource last year. Thank you for supporting your students by making sure they come to school and are well-rested, not just on test days but every day.

If you are not receiving emails from our school, please call the Main Office and let us know your correct email address. The majority of communication from Mill Creek comes through email, so it is important that we have your best contact information on file. Your phone number must also be correct in order to receive text notifications from the school district.

We can't wait to see all of our Cougars at school tomorrow. This is going to be a fantastic school year.

October 9 - Cougar Fun Fest!

Our Cougar Fun Fest will take place on Friday, October 9. Our PTA is having a meeting for all interested parents this Thursday, August 27 at 6 pm in our Cafeteria. This is a wonderful way for new families to get involved. Please consider joining the planning fun! Please reach out to Beth Dixon at edixon@cpsk12.org if you would like to be part of the committee but cannot attend Thursday's meeting. If you cannot commit time to be on the committee, extra helping hands at Fun Fest are always appreciated. We are excited to put on an amazing event again this year!

In accordance with Missouri Senate Bill 68, CPS does not allow the use of Personal Electronic Devices, such as cell phones, at any school at any time during the instructional day.

What will that mean?

• The act defines an "electronic personal communications device" as a portable device that is used to initiate, receive, store, or view communication, information, images, or data electronically.

• Phone and personal electronic devices must be on silent and put away from the beginning of the day to the end of the day, including, but not limited to, during instructional time, meal times, breaks, time between classes and study halls.

• Exceptions are allowed during emergency situations or when authorized under federal law for health or special education purposes.

Please support our teachers and have conversations about this with your students at home. You are always able to call our front office should you need to get a message to your child during the day. Our top priority has always been providing impactful learning opportunities for our students.

If you would like more information about programs that provide food, clothing, housing, medical/mental health needs, utilities, or have a question about any community resources, please reach out to our counseling team. We will offer a variety of clubs this school year for our students. Club information may be advertised in Friday Folders. Club signups will all come through a Parentlink email, and students will be chosen by lottery.
