Hello Rising Sun Families,

We had a great turn out for Open House! It was so nice to see our students and families. Thank you to everyone that attended. We ended our week with Bubblegum/Squishy Day, Tiger Pride Day, Dolly Day and our second PBIS Cash in! Whew! This was an exciting day for sure!

It's hard to believe, but tomorrow (Monday, 9/28) is half way through the first marking period. Teachers will have grades in for half of the marking period by the end of the week. This will be a great time to have a mid marking period check in with your student about how they are doing and setting goals for the second half of the marking period.

Important announcements for this upcoming week:

Thursday, October 1st is Picture Day!

Please do not arrive to line up in the car loop until 8:20am. We have cars that are starting to line up at 8:00am and it is then blocking staff parking spaces.

We are collecting candy donations for our upcoming RSES Trick or Treat! We would not be able to host this event without donations, so thank you to those who have already sent some in!

Be sure to take notice of the events and important dates in this newsletter. We are looking forward to a great week ahead!

Halloween Boo-Grams 🎃

Here’s your chance to show a staff member how
SPOOK-tacular you think they are! The Social Committee team is sponsoring BOO-grams.

What is a BOO-gram you ask? It’s a chance to sponsor a treat – or several – for deserving staff members. The Wheelie Bar has provided a menu of special treats for our staff at a discounted price. You can sponsor up to 10 staff members of your choosing.

In addition, there is space for you to tell that staff member what an incredibly SPOOK-tacular person they are by including a personal message from your student. Want to pay it forward and guarantee everyone receives a treat? That’s easy too… simply put the words “Pay It Forward” in your selection and we will make sure that a deserving staff member receives a treat. You can include a note and it will be delivered with their treat.

We are asking that all BOO-grams be purchased online so that we can make sure this treat remains a surprise for our staff members. By following the QR code you will be directed to our School Cash Online forum to make your selections. If you absolutely cannot make an online payment, please reach out to Mrs. Jones in the office for alternate payment methods. All items will be delivered to staff members on Friday, October 30.

We love our community and appreciate your support of our Staff!
Let’s make this an Un-boo-lievable Halloween treat for our RSES Staff!

Nurse Jane Memorial Courtyard

This spring, our teachers and members of the community worked to revitalize the RSES courtyard in memory of one of our beloved school nurses. We have refreshed and replaced the furniture and plantings to create an inviting space for students and staff.

We hope to continue the renovations and would welcome any donations as we look forward to replacing some of the landscaping and hardscaping to make the area safer for our students.

A Message From Nurse Heather

Welcome Back!

As we begin a new school year, I would like to welcome everyone back and share a few important reminders to help keep our students safe and healthy throughout the year.

Medication Reminders

  • All medications must be brought to school by an adult and accompanied by a completed medication authorization form. Authorization forms are available in the school office at any time.
  • Students may not keep medications in their backpacks. This includes Tylenol, Motrin, allergy medications, cough drops, and other over-the-counter medications. Please do not send medications to school in backpacks, as this creates a safety risk for our students. Help me help keep our kids safe!
  • Medications will not be accepted without a completed and correctly filled-out medication authorization form.
  • Medications must be brought in their original, correctly labeled containers/bottles.
  • The school may keep no more than a one-month supply of daily medication at a time. Families will need to replenish medications as they run low. I will send reminders home with your child as needed.

Immunization Records

All required immunization records are due to the school by the first day of school. If you have questions or have misplaced a required form, please contact the school office or stop by so we can help provide a replacement.

Allergies

It is very important to notify the School Nurse of any known allergies. This information will be shared confidentially and on a need-to-know basis with your child's teacher and our kitchen staff, as appropriate, to help ensure your child's safety.

Thank you for your help and cooperation as we start another wonderful school year! I look forward to seeing everyone and helping keep our students healthy, happy, and safe.

💕As we approach the end of our first month of school and the "new" is starting to wear off, there can be an increase in "I don't want to go to school today" or more tears when saying goodbye. Here are some tips for Separation Anxiety if your child is struggling:

  • Create a routine for your morning- the consistency helps!
  • Read "The Kissing Hand" book and create your own goodbye ritual for the mornings.
  • Practice positive affirmations to use throughout the day "I miss home, but school is a fun place too with lots to learn!"
  • Encourage them to lean on our support here at school! (Mrs. Ragan, Mrs. Linkous, Teachers, etc)
  • Stay positive- as hard as it can be to see your child upset, try your best to stay calm and reassuring.

🎒If your child is in need of a backpack or lunch box, please let me know!

If you or your child need support, please don't hesitate to reach out! I am here to help
🧡 I can be reached by email at krragan@ccps.org or 410-378-4493.

Bullying, Harassment and Intimidation Policy Bullying, Harassment and Intimidation Policy

CCPS Online Bullying Form

Cecil County Public Schools has developed and published its version of the Bullying, Harassment, or Intimidation Form. This form should be used to report alleged incidents of bullying, harassment, or intimidation that has occurred during the current school year on school property, at a school-sponsored activity, at an event off school property, on a school bus, on the way to and/or from school, or through electronic communication on or off school property

All students have the right to be free from bullying, harassment, or intimidation. Cecil County Public Schools (CCPS) is committed to providing a safe, productive, and inclusive learning environment.

  1. Bullying – is unwanted, demeaning behavior among students that involves a real or perceived power imbalance. The behavior is repeated, or is highly likely to be repeated, over time. To be considered bullying, the behavior must be intentional and include: 1) an imbalance of power (students who bully use their physical, emotional, social, or academic power to control, exclude, or harm others), and 2) repetition (bullying behaviors happen more than once or are highly likely to be repeated based on evidence gathered).
  2. Cyberbullying – is bullying that takes place over digital devices like cell phones, computers, and tablets. Cyberbullying can occur through texting, apps, or online via social media, forums, or gaming where people can view, participate in, or share content. Cyberbullying includes sending, posting, or sharing negative, harmful, false, or hurtful content about another student. It can include sharing personal or private information about someone else causing embarrassment or humiliation.
  3. Harassment – includes actual or perceived intentional negative actions or words that offend, ridicule, or demean another student with regard to race, skin color, ethnicity, national origin, immigration status, family/parental or marital status, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, gender expression, religion, ancestry, physical attributes, socioeconomic status, physical or mental ability, or disability. This will also include abusive or threatening speech, symbols, or writing that expresses prejudice against a person or group of people.
  4. Intimidation – is any communication or action directed against another student that threatens or induces a sense of fear and/or inferiority. Retaliation may be considered a form of intimidation.
