Superior High School 2024/25 Dates
This document is a good resource for trying to plan ahead. We are plugging in dates as we hear of them. This is subject to change, but want to keep you all in the loop.
Principal's Message
Spartan Families:
It is great to have our students back on campus. The energy and enthusiasm around SHS these first couple of days has been amazing. Please take a few minutes to read through our newsletter to stay up to date on all the happenings around SHS.
Best,
Aaron Fezzey
Superior High School Principal
Drop off and pickup
To ensure the safety of our students and staff, students should only be dropped off and picked up at Door E16. The road in front of Door N1 is designated busses only from 7:20-8:00 and from 2:30-3:30.
Student Parking and Parking Passes
Please ensure your student(s) have completed this form if they have not yet gotten their parking passes. Parking passes are free, but required for parking in school lots. The form needs to be completed each year. Students may pick up their parking pass form the Treasurer's office.
Grading
In an effort to improve communication about student progress, teachers have added course information into the Class Description tab on PowerSchool. In the class description families should receive information about the standards that will be assessed as well as the method of final grade calculation (highest score or mean for each standard). With our standards based grading system, students have multiple opportunities to demonstrate their understanding. Please do not hesitate to contact your child’s teacher if you have questions.
While the PowerSchool App is useful for doing quick grade and attendance checks, families are encouraged to use PowerSchool through a web browser (PowerSchool) to have better access to course information and comments. The same log-in credentials will allow you access through the web-based version. The web-based version can be accessed on your phone through a web browser. Our District code is KGSP. Please see a log in tutorial below.

Building Assets, Reducing Risks
What is BARR?
Building Assets, Reducing Risks (BARR) is a 9th grade program designed to enhance student success by focusing on both academic and social-emotional growth. By fostering strong relationships between students, teachers, and staff, BARR ensures that each student’s unique needs are identified and addressed early on. Through structured weekly meetings, teachers collaborate to monitor student progress and intervene when challenges arise, whether academic or personal. This proactive approach has been shown to improve academic achievement, increase graduation rates, and build a more supportive and inclusive school environment. For parents, BARR offers the reassurance that their child’s individual strengths and challenges are being recognized, with an emphasis on helping all students reach their full potential.
If you are interested in learning more about the Building Assets, Reducing Risks model at our school please contact:

Assistant 9th Grade Principal
and Superior High School BARR Coordinator
Fall ACT Test for Juniors
Juniors have been emailed reminders about registration for the Optional Fall ACT Test, which closes on Friday, September 6 (this Friday). See below for the details, and students can register HERE. Once students register they will receive a follow up email with more details on preparation for test day.
We encourage all Juniors to sign up for this opportunity for students to take the ACT exam in the fall, and receive their scores in all subject areas to know how to better prepare for the spring exam. Students who have used the opportunity in the past reported that they had a much better testing experience during the March exam and felt much more confident and prepared.
Why take the Optional Fall ACT?
Reduce stress levels by testing in a familiar environment on a regular school day
Help prepare for the atmosphere and routine of a high stakes standardized test before March
Use the data from the fall test to study and increase your spring score (you can use either score for college applications)
Potentially remove the need to retest after the March exam
Use your scores to apply for financial aid and scholarships
Reduced cost from a national test day ($91)
This is an opportunity for students to take the ACT exam in the fall, and receive their scores in all subject areas to know how to better prepare for the spring exam. Students who have used the opportunity in the past reported that they had a much better testing experience during the March exam and felt much more confident and prepared.

Strategic Planning Survey
The School District of Superior is seeking input from various stakeholders to shape the future vision for all students who graduate from Superior. An outside facilitator will lead a team of Superior parents, teachers, specialist, administrators, and board members in the work of creating the new strategic plan for 2025-2030. Your feedback is very important as the School District of Superior prepares all students with the skills for career, college, and life. Survey data will provide the team with current perceptions from the community, parents, and staff. Please leave your feedback here.
