Kia ora e te whānau, Kia ora e te whānau,

Welcome to Term 3!

We’re heading into another exciting and busy term full of rich learning, creativity, and community events. Our School Production What’s the Crime, Mr Wolf? is well underway, and students are already showing great enthusiasm as they prepare for the stage.

We’re also looking forward to the South Wairarapa Kapa Haka Festival, Artsplash Choir, and the continuation of our He Māra garden project, which continues to thrive thanks to the efforts of our tamariki. On the sports field, students will be representing St Teresa’s at the upcoming Football and Hockey Tournaments—go team!

A special date to mark on your calendar is our Grandparents Day Celebration, a beautiful opportunity to honour and connect with the older members of our school whānau. We are also excited to be bringing our community together once again for our annual Spring Gala, which promises to be another fun-filled celebration with food, games, performances, and more.

To end the term, we will be holding baptisms for any children who would like to take this step in their faith journey. If this is something your whānau is interested in, please contact the school office for more information.

Don't forget to book a slot with your child's teacher for learning conversations on Tuesday. It’s going to be a joyful term full of learning, connection, and celebration.

Ngā manaakitanga,

School Board Elections – Call for Nominations

In Term 3, we will be holding our School Board Elections. We are now calling for nominations – either for yourself or someone you know – at 12pm **Wednesday 6th August 2025**.

Joining the School Board is a meaningful way to contribute to the strategic direction and ongoing success of our kura. It’s a chance to help shape the future of St Teresa’s, supporting our vision of Developing confident, compassionate lifelong learners who embrace Catholic faith.

Board members attend monthly meetings and play a vital role in governance – helping guide decisions that impact our students, staff, and wider school community. It’s important work, and incredibly rewarding.

Our school has achieved so much under the leadership of our current Board – from strengthened learning outcomes and increased roll numbers, to major building improvements and enhanced community engagement. We’re keen to continue this positive momentum and are looking for people who can offer their time, skills, and perspectives to reflect the diverse makeup of our school whānau.

If you’re passionate about education, community, and making a difference, we encourage you to consider stepping forward. Nomination can be submitted to Zoe at the school office. For more information please reach out to Zoe or Lindsey.

Attendance Matters! Attendance Matters!

Attendance and Achievement – The Connection is Clear!

Our mid-year data clearly shows that students who attend school regularly are more likely to succeed in reading, writing, and maths.

At St Teresa’s, those with high attendance (over 90%) are achieving better results across all areas of learning. On the other hand, students with lower attendance are more likely to fall behind their peers. This is especially noticeable in writing, where regular practice and teacher feedback are essential to building skills and confidence.

This pattern is consistent across all year groups – the more time students spend at school, the more they can engage with the curriculum, connect with their classmates, and benefit from the teaching and support available.

We know that some absences are unavoidable, especially during the winter months. However, we encourage whānau to prioritise attendance whenever possible. If getting your child to school is proving difficult, please don’t hesitate to reach out – we’re here to support you.

More school = more learning = brighter futures!

Can You Help Reunite These Lonely Items?

Our lost property box is currently home to quite the collection of shoes, jackets, and fleeces—just waiting to find their way back to their owners! If your child is missing something, there’s a good chance it’s tucked away in our growing pile.

Please come and have a look next time you’re at school—we’d love to see these items returned home where they belong.

To make this easier, we kindly ask that all uniform items and shoes are clearly named. It helps us return things quickly and keeps our lost property box from becoming their permanent home.

Thanks for your help in keeping things organised—and warm feet in pairs of shoes!
