Parkside PostFebruary 2026

Greetings Parkside Bullfrogs!

We have been having some chilly weather the past few weeks! Thank you for sending your child to school with a jacket or sweatshirt so they are comfortable and warm throughout the day! Students do go outside for PE and recess when the temperatures are in the 60's so please dress your child appropriately!

We were so happy to see how many families attended our Academic Night and Student-Led Conferences last week! Thank you for supporting your child and our school!

Students have completed their BEST and FAST PM2 assessments and teachers are planning instruction and making adjustments to support students in reaching their potential!

Our annual Starry Night Family Event will be held on Tuesday, February 24, from 6-8pm. Come on out and see the stars and enjoy some fun science activities and presentations!

There are many helpful links and important details in our monthly newsletter, so please take a few minutes to look through the information each month. If you have any questions, please contact your child's teacher or call the front office. We are here to help!

MORNING DROP OFF REMINDER

Drop off begins at 7:30. Student should not be exiting vehicles prior to that time. Please pull all the way forward when dropping off your child in the morning. This helps us get more students unloaded in a timely manner. Students should not be dropped off until you pull up and are parked at a pole. The curve at the back of the line near the bushes is NOT a drop off location. Please follow these expectations for the safety of all students and staff!

CAR SIGNS

Please make sure you have a car sign in your vehicle every day. It significantly slows down our dismissal when we have to check IDs and verify approved pick ups. If you do not have a car sign, please come to the front office and we will provide one. You can also request multiple signs if you have different people picking up your child.

Walker Procedures for Kindergarten and First Graders

The safety of our students is a top priority. All kindergarten and 1st grade students who walk home, need to be met at the walker gate by an adult who has the walker tag. Students will not be released without the proper walker tag being presented. If you forget your tag, our staff will call the front office to verify approved pick ups. The person picking up the child must have a photo ID to verify identity, if they don't have the walker tag. Students who walk home with older students, with parent permission, are permitted to leave.

Thank you for partnering with us to make Parkside a safe place for all!

Literacy & Learning

I have a free resource to share! Florida offers families a home reading program called New Worlds Reading that mails free books and reading activities to eligible kids.

Enrolled students get:

  • 9 books that you choose each school year in English, Spanish, Haitian Creole, or braille.
  • Reading guides and activities that help kids develop their literacy skills using the same kinds of strategies that we use in class.

There is no income requirement to participate! To be eligible, kids must be VPK - 5th graders who are not yet meeting grade level expectations in reading in Florida VPK programs, public schools, or charter schools.

You can apply now even if your child isn’t currently eligible. New Worlds Reading keeps applications on file and re-checks educational records regularly. If a child becomes eligible in the future, they’ll automatically begin receiving books and activities for that year.

Apply at newworldsreading.com

Math This Month

This month in math, students are building strong problem-solving skills by explaining their thinking, using models (like number lines and drawings), and practicing fact fluency in fun, meaningful ways. You can support learning at home by talking through everyday math, counting change, measuring ingredients, or noticing shapes and patterns around your home.

đź’• Family Math Ideas for February:

  • Ask your child to explain how they solved a problem (not just the answer).
  • Practice math facts with quick games like flashcards, dice, or card games.
  • Look for math in Valentine’s Day activities such as counting treats, sorting by color, or sharing equally.

Thank you for partnering with us to help your child grow as a confident mathematician!

Counselor's Corner

February is a great time to focus on kindness and connection. As we approach our themed Kindness Week, we encourage families to talk with their children about simple ways to show kindness through words, actions, and including others. Small acts can make a big impact on our school community.

We would also like to say thank you for your support during National School Counseling Week. It is a privilege to partner with families in supporting students.. Please don’t hesitate to reach out if you have any questions or concerns, I am always here to help.

Parkside Media Center

Thank you for helping make our Scholastic Book Fair a huge success! Our students purchased over 1,200 books, which translates to an incredible 297,000 minutes of reading ahead. We love seeing students excited about choosing books they’re eager to read, and we can’t wait to see all that reading happen at home and at school. Thank you to our families and staff for supporting our readers and our Media Center!
