Dear Churchill Families,

Welcome to Autumn! As the weather cools and the leaves begin to fall, things are certainly heating up at Churchill. Our Bulldogs are hard at work learning and growing! You’ll get a glimpse of the learning next Monday, October 6th, when important updates come home in the Yellow Communication Folder. In the meantime, we encourage you to keep reviewing math facts and reading with your student at home. Your involvement makes a big difference in their success.

Please take a moment to review the important information below, and have a wonderful week ahead!

Warm regards,
Mrs. Peacock

Extra Curricular Clubs Extra Curricular Clubs

Dear Churchill Parents,

We're excited to introduce our extracurricular clubs for the upcoming school year! These staff-sponsored clubs offer fantastic opportunities for your children to explore new interests and develop skills beyond the classroom.

Club Offerings
For Session One, we're pleased to offer the following clubs:
- Art Club (5th Grade)

- Bulldog Book Club (4th- 5th Grade)

- Bulldogs Wings Running Club (3rd-5th Grade)

- Dude Crew (3rd Grade)

- Early Act Club (3rd-5th Grade)

- Basketball Club (4th and 5th Grade)

- Rainbows for All Club (3rd-4th Grade)

- Fitness Club (4th-5th Grade)

Each club has specific grade levels, meeting times, and enrollment limits. Please review the brochure's full club descriptions for details.

Guidelines:

- Students can sign up for one club per session.

- We ask that students only sign up for two clubs a year to accommodate all students. The exception to this rule is only for students participating in the Early Act Club (EAC). They are able to participate in two additional clubs if they also participate in EAC.

- All clubs end at 4:15 p.m.
- There is no bus transportation for after-school clubs.
- Students should be picked up on time after each club session on Center Avenue.
- If a student is picked up late more than twice, they will be removed from the club.

How to Sign Up
1. Review the club offerings in this Bulldog Bulletin.

2. Mark your calendar: Sign-up opens Saturday, October 4th, at noon via Sign Up Genius.

3. Sign-up is first-come, first-served. Please follow the directions carefully when signing up.

Don't worry if your child doesn't get into a club this session - we plan to offer three sessions this school year, providing more opportunities to participate.

We're looking forward to an exciting year of extra-curricular activities at Churchill!

Shoutout to Miss Henson and her class for giving a "Positive Potato" to Jarrett Payton, son of legendary Chicago Bears running back, Walter Payton. He was so thrilled to receive the “Walter Pay-Tater” that he gave our school a shoutout on WGN News and sent Miss Henson a heartfelt email of thanks! (Check out the video below.) Way to go, Miss Henson and students!

Vision and Hearing Screenings Vision and Hearing Screenings

Dear Parent/Guardian,

The Illinois Department of Public Health mandates that children at a specific age and grade level receive vision and hearing screenings from a certified technician. The children in the following categories are required by law to be screened: Pre-K through 3rd grade, 8th grade, students new to the district, students specifically referred by a teacher, and students receiving special education services. Screenings at both Churchill School and Willow School will begin soon. If the screening technician determines that your child may have a vision or hearing problem which needs further evaluation, you will receive a notification letter in the mail regarding the next steps and recommendations.

If you have questions, concerns, or object to these screenings for religious reasons, please contact your child's school nurse.

Thank you,

Gail Straney RN, NCSN
