SJC Vision Statement: A Community, Rooted In Faith, Seeking Excellence For All SJC Vision Statement: A Community, Rooted In Faith, Seeking Excellence For All

Principal's Message Principal's Message

As we journey through Lent and eagerly await the joy of Easter, our school is alive with purpose and growth. Students are working diligently, embracing their lessons with enthusiasm and determination. With the weather beginning to warm, there’s a renewed energy in the air that mirrors the hope of the Resurrection. After Easter, we look forward to welcoming families during our open houses and preparing for course registration nights. It’s a season of renewal, not only in our faith but in the life of our school community. May God continue to bless each of you during this sacred time.

Thank you for your continued support of our school. As always, if I can support you or your family at all, please contact me at 403-362-5989 or at aschell@redeemer.ab.ca.

CTR Director of Catholic Education - Grant Gay

The season of Easter begins at sunset on Holy Thursday. The Pascal Triduum, the three days we celebrate as one, carries on through Good Friday, Holy Saturday and ends at sunset on Easter Sunday. These holiest of days in the Christian year are the foundation of our faith. They are what we trust in for our eternal salvation. They are what give us hope during the trials of life. They show us that love truly conquers all.

On Holy Thursday and Good Friday we enter into our Lord's passion where He ultimately suffers the weight of all sin—past, present, and future—as He hangs upon the cross. There in that moment of finality God, the Creator of all things, the reason for and possibility of anything, died. The Word of God lay dead in Sheol (the Hebrew underworld) preaching to the dead gone before Him in silence. Drawing all Creation to Himself, the first-born of Creation brought Creation with Him into death. We who came after this event join Christ in this moment at our baptism, as we were held under water (whether poured or immersed). In His act of solidarity with us, and ours with Him, our death is destroyed.

The Spirit of Love, the Spirit of God that fills us at baptism, called the Word back to the land of the living from God-forsakenness. As Creation joined Him in death, so too does the resurrection of Jesus restore to life all Creation in Him. He is not alone, but rather first-born from the dead, and when the stone rolls back from the tomb He is but the first of his brother and sisters to step forth from the grave born anew.

Easter doesn't end at the resurrection. As a matter of fact, it's just beginning. For forty days, Jesus showed himself to the world, alive, but new; changed. Those who walk His road are forever changed, and can't linger in a world waiting to be restored. The Word of God returns to the Father, having accomplished His will. His divinity unchanged, but His humanity, taken on in the Incarnation, is eternally changed. In the Ascension humanity goes to where it has never gone before, into the very heart of God; the mansion with many rooms and a place for all who cling to the Son.

This Easter, savor every day. Live boldly in the freedom and joy of the Children of God who hope in the great promise of eternity won for us by the love of Christ.

New High School for CTR Brooks Announced New High School for CTR Brooks Announced

It is with great excitement that we share the recent announcement of funding for the planning phase of a new Grade 9-12 school in Brooks. This investment marks a significant step forward in addressing the pressing space needs in our division and will greatly benefit the students and families in all of our Christ The Redeemer Catholic Schools in Brooks.

We are so appreciative of the provincial government for recognizing our needs and providing us with this opportunity to continue growing our success. Our commitment to providing exceptional learning experiences has resulted in a 95.3% three-year graduation rate at St. Joseph’s Collegiate, even as we serve a majority of students who are new to Canada and learning English for the first time. This recent announcement will support the growth of our shared facility which was at 107% utilization this past September.

The advocacy to share our successes and needs has been a shared approach. We would like to express appreciation to all of our families, staff, and community members who have written letters to our municipal and provincial government regarding our need for additional learning spaces, advocated for the zoning of the old rodeo grounds to support a new school build, and shared the success of our faith-based learning at our Christ The Redeemer Schools in Brooks.

The funding announcement will support the division’s work alongside the province and municipality to plan the next essential phases prior to moving toward design and construction funding. We are confident in the division’s ability to support these next steps.

We will continue to communicate with our families as progress continues. Once again, your support of our schools is so appreciated and instrumental to the success of our schools in the Brooks community.
