Principal's Message
This week we had several opportunities to celebrate our faith.
On Wednesday, our Ukrainian Bilingual Program School Opening Liturgy was held at St. Basil's Parish. Bishop David Motiuk, along with numerous clergy from the Ukrainian Catholic Eparchy, celebrated a beautiful liturgy for students from St. Matthew, St. Martin, St. Brendan, Austin O'Brien and Elk Island Catholic Schools Ukrainian Bilingual Programs. It was wonderful to gather in prayer as a Ukrainian Catholic faith community.
On Thursday, our whole St. Matthew School community gathered at St. Matthew Parish to celebrate our Thanksgiving Mass with Fr. Joy. Our students truly lived their faith by singing beautifully, participating fully in the Mass and demonstrating their best etiquette in church. Well done St. Matthew students!
Wishing you all a wonderful weekend,
Paul Begoray

Halloween Events & Guidelines for Parents/Guardians
Halloween is almost here, and St. Matthew has Spook-tacular plans in place for our students!
On Wednesday, October 28th - St. Matthew classes will have an opportunity to participate in our annual 'Minute to Win it!' Halloween activity in our large gym. Our grade 6 classes are working hard to prepare this amazing day for our students.
On Friday, October 30th, all students are encouraged to come dressed in their costumes when they arrive in the morning at school.
Costume Guidelines:
It is important that we remember that we have young students at the school and that costumes need to be appropriate.
- Costumes may not have parts that interfere with learning or prevent sitting at desks.
- Costumes (including masks) may not be violent, gory, bloody, or suggestive.
- Costumes may not promote violence or have accessories or props that would be used as a weapon. Therefore, leave all costume “weapons” at home (swords, knives, guns, etc.)
- “Orange and black” is a suitable option instead of a costume. Be creative!
- All snacks that are being brought from home to share with other students in the class must be nut free, store bought, and individually wrapped.
We are looking forward to everyone following the guidelines, coming up with creative costumes, and having fun!
In addition to class parties, we will be doing a Halloween Parade in the Large Gym in the afternoon where classes will have the opportunity to showcase their awesome costumes to each other!
Lost & Found items are on display
We have a large number of lost & found items on display near our large gym. Please encourage your child/children to look if they have lost items. Items not claimed will be donated to charity at the end of the week. Thanks!
