Financial Aid is NOW OPEN! Complete the FAFSA
The FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) filing window is now open! We HIGHLY ENCOURAGE any student considering post-high school education to apply for financial aid. Follow the steps below:
- Your FSA account is your username and password for the FAFSA application.
- Both students and parents need to have their own username and password.
- Your FSA account will require your social security number (SSN).
- Save your FSA account information! Each school year you apply for FAFSA, you will be using the same username and password.
✅STEP 2: Complete the FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) at www.fafsa.gov.
- Submit for the 2027-28 School Year, which is based on 2025 tax information (you are applying for the school year you will be going to college).
- Make it a priority to complete the FAFSA as soon as possible.
- Many scholarship applications require that you have your FAFSA submitted to apply for the scholarship.
College Fair 2026
📅Thursday, Oct. 8th | 🕓6:00 - 8:00pm
Whatcom County high school juniors and seniors are invited to attend the College Fair 2026. This free event will be hosted at Sehome High School. Public, private, two-year, and four-year institutions will be onsite. Visit the College Fair 2026 website for a list of participating institutions.

Senior Class Meeting & Ordering Caps & Gowns
📅Tuesday, Nov. 3rd | 🕓9:00 - 9:30am
Our Senior Class Meeting on November 3rd will be held in the MBHS Auditorium during PRIDE. Jostens will be here to talk with seniors about ordering cap & gowns. Seniors - this is an excellent time to ask questions and get information before you order!
Running Start students: if you are able to join us, please attend this meeting! We are looking forward to seeing you.
Letters of Recommendation
In PRIDE this fall, we discussed how to ask teachers and counselors for a letter of recommendation or to be a reference. View the Letters of Recommendation presentation for more information.
All public Washington State Universities have moved to using the Common Application (Common App) as an option to submit the admissions application. If you are applying for universities in the Common App or a similar website, it will ask for your counselor’s contact information. When you submit their contact information and email, it automatically sends your counselor a recommendation request. If you are putting your counselor’s contact information into the Common App, you need to:
- Email your counselor (Ms. Lee or Mr. Marston) and confirm what universities you are applying to and what universities require a letter of recommendation from your counselor; and
- Provide your counselor with your resume or activities, skills, & involvement sheet.
