Peterborough Elementary School
September 12, 2025
Dear PES Families,
We made it through our first full week!
This week, students focused on Safety—what it looks like in school and how it connects to our core values. Next week, we will shift our focus to Kindness.
Below, you’ll see photos of our second graders during their Cornucopia lesson, as well as Mrs. Topping’s class watching their butterfly hatch (fittingly during their phonics lesson, so the class named her “Phonics”!).
A few reminders:
Toys and Belongings from Home
We ask that you keep your child’s personal toys at home. It can be very difficult for some children
to share their own toys.
Drop off time in the morning is 8:25, there are no adults to supervise before this time. We ask that you please not drop your child off or leave them at the door without supervision. This is for everyone's safety!
If your child is absent, please enter that into Pick Up Patrol or call the main office to let us know. We need to indicate in our system if your child is excused or unexcused to align with our school policy which you can find in our student handbook on our school website.
Have a great weekend,
Tammy

Our new Assistant Principal- Mr. McCosker
We are pleased to welcome Mr. Michael "Mike" McCosker to Peterborough Elementary School as our new Assistant Principal.
Mike is from Keene, prior, lifelong resident of Hinsdale, Mr. McCosker brings a wealth of experience and dedication to education. He began his career in public education as a paraprofessional working with two intensive needs students in the Monadnock School District. Since then, he has served in a variety of roles, including In-School Coordinator, Athletic Director, Special Education Teacher/Case Manager (at both the elementary and high school levels), Associate Director of Student Support Services, and most recently, Director of Student Support Services.
Mr. McCosker is excited to join the PES community and is looking forward to building strong relationships with students, staff, and families.
Outside of school, Mike enjoys restoring his historic 1800s-era home and cherishes time spent with his wife Tina, their children Michael and Rachel, and their grandchildren—Ceria, Michael, Wesley, Destiny, and a new grandchild expected in March.
Please join us in giving Mr. McCosker a warm welcome to PES!
Nurse's Note 🩺
Lately, we’ve been hearing a lot about mental health, but it’s equally important to remember how much what we eat and drink impacts our overall well-being. At PES, we want to help students build healthy habits that fuel their bodies and minds for learning.
Popular beverages like energy drinks and refreshers may seem appealing, but they often contain high amounts of sugar and caffeine. These ingredients can interfere with sleep, healthy growth, and overall wellness. For that reason, we kindly ask that families not send these drinks in with students.
To give you some perspective:
-
The FDA recommends that children ages 2–18 consume no more than 25 grams of sugar per day (about 6 teaspoons). A small 6 oz. glass of apple juice, for example, already has 20 grams—leaving very little room for the rest of the day.
-
The FDA also advises no caffeine for children under 12 and no more than 100 mg daily for ages 12–18.
At Peterborough Elementary, your child’s well-being is our top priority. Thank you for helping us reinforce the importance of healthy choices—together, we can guide students toward habits that support learning, growth, and lifelong wellness.
Food Services 🍎
Breakfast and Lunch
All students may purchase before-school breakfast; kindergarten through fourth grade students may purchase a hot lunch or bring their own lunch. Free and reduced hot lunch applications are
distributed on the first day of school and are available throughout the year in the event that family
financial circumstances change. Lunch menus are sent home with students each month and are
posted on the district website. Parents who want to order lunch for their student need to pay in
advance, you can use a credit card online at Food Services - Contoocook Valley School District or you can send the cash or check to the school in an envelope with your child's name on it.
Thank you- Lamy's Black Belt Academy
