Endurance, Speed, & Strength in Physical Education!
2nd through 5th grade finished their final round of Physical Fitness Assessments this week, which resulted in remarkable growth! Since the beginning of the school year, students have improved the number of rounds on the PACER Test by an average of 11.76 or 20%. In terms of speed, students reduced the time to run a 60-yard lap by an average of 0.47 seconds or 4%. 4th through 8th grade increased the number of push-ups by an average of 4.41 or 53%. 6th through 8th grade students jumped further by an average of 3.73 inches or 7%. Over the next couple of weeks we will be celebrating those students who achieved a new personal record. Way to go, Cardinals!
Middle School students on Monday started our baseball/softball unit. Each student was able to demonstrate hand-eye coordination by hitting a stationary ball off of a tee, an underhand tossed ball, and a pitched, overhand thrown ball. There were several hard hit line drives, as well as great encouragement towards others. On Monday, Middle School classes will be engaged in soccer outside, weather permitting. Friday, students will get an opportunity to use a bat to hit, like this weekβs classes.
PreK through 1st grade wrapped up our soccer unit this week. Students did a fantastic job demonstrating passing, trapping, dribbling, and scoring a soccer ball using their feet. Even with well over a dozen soccer balls zooming around the gymnasium, students kept their composure and modeled great spatial awareness.
