FIRST DAY OF SCHOOL REMINDERS
CLIFFORD H. SMART MIDDLE SCHOOL
Dear CHS Middle School Families,
I hope this finds you well! With school starting on Monday, August 28th, we wanted to give you some information about the first day and tips to help it go smoothly.
Tips and General information:
Students getting dropped off will wait outside the main lobby until our first bell at 8:00. They can be dropped off as early as 7:45 a.m. Please view our pick up and drop off guidelines in our CHS Chronicles.
Smart staff members will meet all dropped off students at 8:00 to direct them. (see “ Start of school Student Locations” below)
Students riding the buses will be greeted by Smart staff members at 8:00 to direct them (see “ Start of school Student Locations” below)
Please have your student prepared with their schedule, locker number, and locker combination. This information can all be found in Skyward. If you are unable to access Skyward we will have schedules ready for students to pick up when they arrive in their “Start of School Student Locations” (see below).
Band and orchestra students do not need to bring instruments on the first day. Students who ordered instruments will be given them by their teachers at a later date.
School is dismissed at 3:00 p.m. Please view our pick up and drop off guidelines in our CHS Chronicles.
Start of School Student Locations
At 8:00, 6th graders will leave with Smart staff members from the buses or main lobby, and go immediately to the cafeteria and not to their lockers. They will get more instructions and meet their 1st hour teacher there. The 6th grade staff has created a very thorough schedule of activities scheduled on the first day to help orientate students to the building.
At 8:00, 7th graders will leave from the buses or main lobby and report to their first hour class after going to their lockers. If your 7th grader needs their class schedule, they may report to the learning commons to pick one up.
At 8:00, 8th graders will leave from the buses or main lobby to go to their lockers and then to their first hour class. If your 8th grader needs their schedule, they may report to the media center to pick one up.
Athletics:
Students who are plannng on participating in after school athletics may report to the main gym after school to meet their coaches. Students may bring their physicals to practice on Monday if they have not already done so. Please see the hand outs below regarding our volleyball and cross country teams.
We look forward to a great first day on Monday, August 28th!
Thank you!
