Pierce News
Welcome, Ms. Hitchcock!
My name is Erin Hitchcock and I am the new Student Support Coach. The Student Support Coach is a new position, which was created to help students with social-emotional challenges or who need another adult available to help foster a nurturing and positive environment.
I will be working alongside Mrs. Geisler for the rest of the year. I have been married for 18 years. We have two kiddos, Roman who is 13 and an 8th grader at Derby and Emerson who is 8 and a third grader at Pembroke. We also have a 5 year old black lab named Mulligan. As a family we love to hike, mountain bike, ski, and just be adventurous. On top of that I personally like to run. I started off as a teacher back in 2007 by teaching at a small charter school on the east side of Detroit where I taught 7th and 8th grade science for a semester and then a year of 2nd grade and finished out teaching 1st grade.. I paused my career to raise my kids and now I’m excited to be here, at Pierce! I look forward to getting to know all of you!
Parent-Teacher Conferences
Parent – Teacher Conferences Fall 2023
We are looking forward to welcoming parents/guardians into our buildings for in person parent-teacher conferences. Our partnership is so important and the Pierce staff is excited to share your child’s progress as a Panther. Our goal is 100% percent participation in this partnership for parent-teacher conferences. The school is alive with projects and student work that is filling the hallways and classrooms.
We understand that sometimes there are circumstances that won’t allow you to attend in person for your child’s conference. Please consider signing up for a conference time using the PTC Fast link and email the classroom teacher to request a Zoom link.
There is a ½ day of school on Wednesday, November 8th and Thursday, November 9th. School will be dismissed at 11:50 a.m. and Parent -Teacher Conferences are from 1-4 p.m. and 5-8 p.m. both days.
Please click on the link below to schedule your child’s conference.
Fun School-Wide STEM Activity: Balloons Over Broadway!
Did you know? We have a STEM team full of teachers who are passionate about increasing the integration of STEM into Pierce! Check it out what they've planned!
Pierce Students are participating in an engineering design project called "Balloons Over Broadway"! After listening to the book "Balloons Over Broadway" by Melissa Sweet, the students are tasked with creating their very own balloon float for our very own Pierce (two days before) Thanksgiving Day Parade! This is a great opportunity to combine art/design, engineering and literacy across all grade levels.
What's the engineering design process? It's a way for students to get inspired, be creative, test and improve their creations! Learn more here.
Pierce Street Water Main Project Update
Due to a schedule conflict with the general contractor and paving contractor for the Pierce Street Water Main Project, final road paving will not occur on Sunday, November 5. Crews will still work on Sunday to patch the base repairs. Final paving is tentatively scheduled to take place during the week of November 13.
After the paving of the base repairs on Sunday, the road will be opened to local traffic so residents will be able to access their homes and driveways once again. All parking should be in driveways and not on the street surface. Barricades will still be in place at Lincoln and some side streets to restrict Pierce Street to outside pass thru traffic. Care should be taken when driving on Pierce Street until after final paving since it is still a construction zone.
The City apologizes for this schedule change and the inconvenience of the construction. We are striving to complete this project as soon as possible. If you have any questions, you may contact the Engineering Department at 248-530-1840.
Parent Education
Each week we will share something new about our curriculum, education pedagogy, Social/Emotional learning best practices, and more! Be sure to check it out each week to learn more!
