Cell Phone Policy
DCHS will be following the DCSD's policy for student's personal communication devices. When students are in a classroom and during instructional time, cell phones are required to be stored in a caddy or phone hotel in the classroom.
The DCHS cell phone/technology policy:
Cell phones are not allowed to be out or used during class time (bell-to-bell).
Every student will store his/her/their cell phone in a classroom caddy or phone hotel designated by the teacher.
Cell phones cannot be stored in student backpacks or on their person.
Inappropriate technology use is a discipline issue and Code of Conduct Violation.
Bringing a cell phone or other personal electronic devices to school is a privilege and is to be used in a responsible manner.
Please refer to the attached document for specific guidelines and expectations or click the Phone Photo: DCHS Personal Communication Device Policy

Advisement: A Time to Connect, Reflect, and Grow
At DCHS, we believe students are most successful when they feel known, supported, and connected. That is why advisement is intentionally built into every student's schedule twice each week. Advisement is more than a break in the academic day or time to catch up on homework. It provides students with a consistent adult who gets to know them, celebrates their successes, notices when they may be struggling, and helps connect them with support when needed. Research shows that students who feel connected to their school and believe adults care about them and their learning are more likely to attend regularly, stay engaged, succeed academically, and graduate.
During advisement, students have opportunities to:
- Connect and belong by building meaningful relationships with their advisement teacher and peers.
- Reflect and grow by reviewing grades, celebrating progress, setting goals, and identifying next steps.
- Build skills for life through Wayfinder and other activities focused on communication, self-management, resilience, collaboration, and decision-making.
- Prepare for the future by exploring their strengths, interests, goals, and pathways beyond high school.
Ultimately, our goal for advisement is simple: Every student should be known, supported, and have someone in their corner. By intentionally setting aside this time each week, we are investing not only in our students' academic success, but also in their growth as people.

AN IMPORTANT MESSAGE FROM YOUR SCHOOL LIBRARY!
A library card provides endless opportunities to transform the school year. As students start back to school, there is one essential school supply that requires no shopping and doesn’t cost a penny – it’s a library card.
This September, Douglas County High School and Douglas County Libraries is joining with the American Library Association (ALA) and libraries nationwide for Library Card Sign-up Month, to encourage parents, caregivers and students to obtain a free library card that will save them money while reaping rewards in academic achievement and lifelong learning.
Whether it’s providing free access to STEAM (science, technology, engineering, arts and mathematics) programs, educational apps, in-person and virtual homework help or technology workshops, a library card is one of the most cost effective back-to-school supplies. Research databases, books and magazines, computer laptops, and teen activities are also available to anyone with a DCL library card.
Libraries play an important role in the education and development of children. Studies show children who are read to in the home and who use the library perform better in school and are more likely to continue to use the library as a source of lifetime learning.
For more information about how to sign up for a library card, please visit the Teacher-Librarian, Matt Adams, in the Douglas County High School library.
