Resources and Information from WHS Counselors

Wellness WednesdayResources and Information from WHS Counselors

May 13, 2020

Dear students,

We hope that things are going OK for you these days. We know that many of you might have questions - about AP exams, about courses for next year (check your email for the verification form), about junior meetings, about future planning. We don't have all the answers, but there are a lot of things we can help you with. Reach out to us to set up a time to chat, or join the guidance counselors during office hours. We may not be in our office at school, but we are still here to help you.

Take some time outside this week (if you can, while practicing social distancing and wearing a mask, of course) and let us know how you're doing.

Be well,

WHS Counselors

Throw Away Negative Thoughts... Literally

A study in the Journal of Psychological Science suggests that the act of writing down your negative thoughts or worries, and then physically crumpling them up and throwing them away can, at least temporarily, clear them from your mind.

Find Your Happy Place.

Destress Monday has a number of tips for managing stress. Visualizing a place where you feel relaxed, safe, and happy is one way to help reduce stress. It can be done anywhere at anytime. Here are some tips on finding your happy place:

Think of a place that already exists. Close your eyes and recall all the details of a special place.

Or, come up with a new place. You can imagine yourself on a beach, in a garden, or anywhere that rings true for you.

Here are office hours for next week (week of May 4):

Dr. Baker: Tuesday, 1:00PM-2:00PM and Wednesday, 4:00PM-5:00PM
