CATCHING UP WITH... Mrs. Edmonston
It's been another fantastic week at Canyon View Elementary School. Here are just a few highlights:
On Monday, our Third Grade went to the Del Mar Fairgrounds for a garden fieldtrip. On Tuesday, our Westview Ambassadors joined us for a playground play-date. On Wednesday, the Ambassadors returned to present a Character Counts Assembly on the topic of Safety. Thursday was our VAPA Day and Friday was the Coyote Round-Up and Silent Auction.
Here are a few things we are looking forward to in the week ahead: We will be wrapping up our CAASPP testing, so be sure your children get good sleep and a healthy breakfast to set them up for success! On Wednesday morning, our fourth graders will head to West View to learn about fifth grade orchestra and band instruments. On Wednesday afternoon, fourth grade will present their choral music program at a school assembly. On Thursday, fourth grade will perform this program for parents. Also this week, we will have orientations for our incoming TK and Kindergarten families. See below for more information.
Let's Make it a GREAT week!

CATCHING UP WITH... Picture Books for Our Families
Specially Curated Books from Ms. Alice Burge, CVES Library & Media Tech (& CVES Classified Employee of the Year!)
Every May in the CVES Library, we share stories to celebrate Asian American & Pacific Islander Heritage Month. Reading diverse and engaging picture books helps kids to embrace different perspectives, cultivate understanding and empathy and engage in conversations with their families about their unique heritage and experiences.

Too Many Mangos, written by Tammy Paikai, illustrated by Don Robinson
Namaste is a Greeting, written by Suma Subramaniam, illustrated by Sandya Prabhat
What is namaste? It’s found in a smile, a friendship, a celebration. It exists in silence; it can be said when you’re happy or when you’re feeling low. For one small girl in a bustling city, namaste (“I bow to you”) is all around her as she and her mother navigate a busy marketplace—and when she returns with a little plant and chooses to give it to an elderly neighbor, it can be seen in the caring bond between them. This sweet, colorful picture book makes the concepts of mindfulness and thoughtfulness come alive.
How to Solve a Problem: The Rise (and Falls) of a Rock-Climbing Champion, written by Ashima Shiraishi, illustrated by Yao Xiao
To a rock climber, a boulder is called a "problem," and you solve it by climbing to the top. There are twists and turns, falls and scrapes, and obstacles that seem insurmountable until you learn to see the possibilities within them. And then there is the moment of triumph, when there's nothing above you but sky and nothing below but a goal achieved. World-champion climber Ashima Shiraishi draws on her personal experiences to tell a story that challenges readers to tackle the problems in their own lives and rise to greater heights than they would have ever thought possible.
