Principal Message
Laker Families,
What an incredible month January was! From welcoming everyone back after Winter Break to diving headfirst into new learning and exciting opportunities, January truly set the tone for a fantastic 2025.
Last month our focus on perseverance was inspiring to see in action. Students tackled challenges, set goals, and showed determination in their learning. As we step into February, we’re excited to shift our focus to honesty—helping students understand the importance of truthfulness, responsibility, and building trust with others. We encourage you to continue these conversations at home, as honesty is a lifelong skill that strengthens relationships and character.
Our winter benchmark assessments are complete, and we’re beginning new WIN (What I Need) groups, tailored to meet each student’s academic needs. Thank you for your support in ensuring your child comes to school ready to learn each day—it makes a big difference!
Looking ahead, February is shaping up to be just as exciting. Kindergarten registration is now open, so if you have a little Laker ready to join our school community, we’d love to help you through the process. You can get more information below. Please don’t hesitate to reach out with any questions.
As always, thank you for your partnership in making our school a special place where students feel supported, valued, and inspired to grow. We’re grateful for your involvement and can’t wait to see what the rest of this year will bring.

Kindergarten Registration
Top things to know:
- REGISTER: The registration process is easy and it’s all online at www.sumnersd.org/kindergarten.
- KINDERGARTEN SCREENING: The District screens incoming kindergarteners as a way to plan for future learning, create balanced classes and help parents understand ways to support their child in preparing for kindergarten. Schools will contact families to schedule a screening date for later this spring.
- FAMILY CONNECTIONS: One-on-one time for the teacher, student and parents to meet and get to know each other. Your school will be in touch to arrange a Family Connection meeting for a specific date and time during the first week of school.
- IMMUNIZATIONS: Washington state's school immunization law requires documentation of immunization at the time of school registration. A Certificate of Immunization Status (CIS), signed by the parent/guardian, must be on file at the school on or before the student's first day of school.
- KINDERGARTEN ROUNDUP: Prior to kinder screening, Roundup provides students/families an opportunity to physically tour school and meet important people as well as get pertinent information regarding registration.

2025 STEM Fair
Dear 2025 STEM Fair Participants and Families:
This year’s STEM Fair and Art Show is fast approaching! As always, we are excited to see students of all ages showcase their incredible work through a variety of STEM projects. All K-12 students are invited to submit a project on a topic of their choice. This year, students in grades 3-12 are required to submit and present their projects digitally using Google Slides. While they will still present their work in person at the STEM Fair, this new digital format streamlines the process for those wishing to enter the Discovery Regional Science Fair.
To ensure accessibility and ease the transition to digital submissions, students in grades K-2 will have the option to submit either a traditional tri-fold display or a digital project. We look forward to celebrating student innovation and creativity once again this year!
Please explore the project packets below for more information:
The deadline to register a project is Friday, January 24th at 3pm. Due to planning needs and space constraints, late submissions will not be accepted. Please note: projects do not need to be completed by January 24th, but the topic needs to be chosen.
Please note the date and venue of the 2025 STEM Fair:
Saturday, February 22, 2025
Bonney Lake High School
10am-2pm
