End of the Year Party
On Wednesday, 5/3, the Cherokee Club held it's annual end of the year party! This year the club celebrated with an "ice cream party." We are proud of all the work put in this year by these kiddos and are excited to see the awesome things they do next year!
Hornets of Character Family Fun Night
On Tuesday, April 25, 2023, the Hornets of Character afterschool program hosted a Family Fun Night! The Native American Programs provided a Cherokee storytelling presentation. Janelle Adair was brought in to tell a few traditional Cherokee stories to families.
Also, the Cherokee Club and the Elementary Cherokee Push-In Program supplied some samples of the projects they have done this school year. Parents and families got to see some of the fun and exciting things going on in these programs!
Native American Studies & Cherokee
Native American Studies
7th and 8th grade Native American Studies classes just finished taking final exams. Students took finals over material they learned throughout the Spring semester. Students are currently finishing the last week of school by watching cultural movies like Indian Horse and Searching For Sequoyah.
Cherokee
Cherokee 1 and Cherokee 2 classes just finished taking final exams. Students took finals over material they learned throughout the Spring semester. Students are currently creating diamond paintings. The paintings they are creating are feather bookmarks.
JOM STEM Activity
In April/May 2023, Mrs. Erin Thompson utilized the kits provided by the JOM STEM Department to make and launch “stomp” rockets with her 4th grade students. Mrs. Thompson does a great job of incorporating hands on activities and project into her 4th and 5th grade Science classes.
