A Message from Your Counselors A Message from Your Counselors

It was a frightful and fun Halloween theme week, lunch party, and Halloween costume contest. Our winners were:

  • First Place: Meena Duzak-Forestier (dressed as an angel)
  • Second Place: Xavier Henderson (dressed as a teletubby)
  • Third Place: Kajsa Benson (dressed as a dinosaur)
  • Fourth Place: Briana Webb (in leopard makeup)

Marking Period 2- It's important that any student that is behind in credits talk to their teachers.

Falcon Hour is Monday and Tuesday after school and there are peer tutors during Academy. Please utilize the supports available and please check-in with your teachers.

With the extra hour this weekend from daylight savings, we hope students are rested and ready to tackle the last marking period of the semester. As a counselor, I enjoy the quote,” Asking for help is a sign of strength. Be brave enough to do it.” Be brave this coming week and ask for the help you need.

Asking for help can sound like:

  • Can we look at Schoology together?

  • Can we review marking period 1 or 2 together?

  • I need help with an assignment that was passed back to me to redo.

  • I need help finding information about an assignment.

Plans after graduation? It is also that time of year for seniors to be working on and finishing up college applications. Also, utilize Mrs. Manalo-LeClair for questions concerning 4 year college, 2 year college, and other options like a gap year. She is in the college and career center Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays. There is a path for everyone and we want to support you on this journey.

Attendance Policy Review Attendance Policy Review

zoom_out_map

Regular attendance and classroom participation are essential to the educational process at MHS. Missing class presentations, discussions, lectures, demonstrations and laboratories can be detrimental to student achievement, grades, credit accumulation and the progress of the class itself.

Reporting and Excusing an Absence

When a student is absent, it is required that the parent/guardian either phone the Attendance Office recorder (510-594-2889) or send a note explaining the reason for the absence. If an absence is cleared by phone, it is not necessary to follow up with a note. Only the signatures of the parent(s)/guardian(s) on the student emergency card are permitted on notes. Please provide the following information: first and last name of the student, name of parent, date of absence, the specific classes missed, and the reason for the absence. Parents/Guardians must excuse their student’s absence within three days of the time they return. If an absence is not cleared within that time, the absence will be marked as unexcused. Students are not permitted to excuse themselves on the recorder or by note. Students who miss three or more days of school in succession must present a doctor’s note, if the absences are due to illness.
