Reading-
What will we be learning this week?
Reading
Hello families! This week, students will bring together everything we’ve learned throughout our ocean-themed unit. Here’s what we’re focusing on:
Writing
Plan and organize an essay that uses textual evidence from any of our module readings to explain why people explore the sea.
Vocabulary
Demonstrate understanding of academic and content vocabulary during our End-of-Module Vocabulary Assessment. The study guide has been sent home but can also be found below!
Reading & Comprehension
Take a quiz to show understanding of how to use text features and identify the main idea in informational texts.
We’re so proud of how much our readers and writers have grown through this unit—our young marine researchers are ready to show all they’ve learned! 🌊🦈
Math
Use place value reasoning and properties of operations to multiply one-digit whole numbers by multiples of 10, in the range 10–90.
💡 What We’re Learning Students are learning how to multiply a one-digit number by a multiple of 10 (such as 10, 20, 30… up to 90). 4 × 30 = 120 7 × 50 = 350 We use place value reasoning to help students understand why this works. This helps students see patterns in multiplication and prepares them for more complex problems in later grades. . 🏠 Practice at Home Try these quick and fun ways to practice at home: Skip Counting by Tens: Have your child count by tens starting from different numbers (e.g., 7, 17, 27, 37…). Real-Life Multiples of 10: Ask, “If one pack of pencils costs $10, how much would 6 packs cost?” Quick Challenges: 5 × 20 = ? 8 × 40 = ? 3 × 70 = ? Encourage your child to explain how they know their answer is correct!
For example:
👉 They learn that 30 means 3 tens, so 4 × 30 is the same as 4 × (3 tens) = 12 tens = 120.
Science/Social Studies
This week in Social Studies students will continue to learn about the Georgia regions!(Coastal Plains, Appalachian Plateau, Piedmont, Valley & Ridge, Blue Ridge)
ESOL
FREE english classes for parents!
Reading Specialist
Welcome back, 3rd grade students and families! My name is Mrs. Amanda Montgomery and I will be one of your child's Reading Specialists for this year. I am excited to start this school year by getting to know all of your child's strengths and then making a plan to help them grow as readers. Please do not hesitate to email me (amontgomery@marietta-city.k12.ga.us) or call, if you have any questions or concerns. This is going to be a great year of growth.
3rd grade will start their beginning of the year literacy assessments on August 4th. This process will take about 3 weeks to complete and it is very important for your child to be at school, ready to give their best! Thank you for all you do at home to support us here at school.
Sincerely,
Mrs. Amanda Montgomery
EIP
Reminder: Your student has made multiplication flash cards in class. Please encourage them to study the cards that come home to support strategy modeling in class.
IRR
I am an interrelated special education teacher; I will co-teach in Mrs. Baker and Ms. Castillo’s classrooms this school year. This is my second year teaching, and I am so excited to be teaching 3rd grade again at Park Street! If your child is in Mrs. Baker or Ms. Castillo’s homeroom and has an IEP, I will be their case manager this year. I will be your contact person regarding your child’s IEP needs. Please know that I am here to support your child and communicate with necessary staff information for the implementation of your child’s IEP. Please feel free to contact me with any questions or concerns.
