This week staff reviewed our Keeping Safe at Green Meadow presentation with students. Each class will practice what to do in the event of a lockdown or stay-in-place situation. In the next week, we will have a school-wide lockdown drill practice. You can view our student presentation by clicking the link below.

Attendance Letters Attendance Letters

If your child has missed 8 or more days of school and/or has been tardy 7 or more times during Term 1, you will receive an attendance letter within the next week. The purpose of this letter is to inform you of your child’s attendance record and to highlight the resources and contacts available should your family need support.

We understand that children get sick, and we want you to continue prioritizing your child’s health. At the same time, strong attendance habits begin in the early years, and consistent routines help set students up for success as they move into middle and high school.

Our full attendance policy can be found in the Green Meadow School Handbook, available on our website.

Green Meadow students are learning about self regulation, understanding and responding to emotions, during SEL lessons this week. As educators and caregivers, one of our jobs is to help children find calm by coaching them to identify and label their feelings, and by modeling calm ourselves. Marc Brackett, PhD, founding director of the Yale Center for Emotional Intelligence, calls emotion regulation “the skill of our time” in his new book Dealing With Feeling. You can learn more at www.marcbrackett.com and on this week’s episode of the Thriving Kids podcast. Or, hunker down with your child and enjoy Don't Blow Your Top! Questions or feedback? Please contact Julie Danforth at jdanforth@maynard.k12.ma.us.

Has some of your child's gear gone missing? Please stop by our Lost and Found located in the Green Meadow cafeteria. We have a lot of items that need to make their way back to their owners.

We will be partnering with an organization called Circle of Hope to donate items periodically from our lost and found when it grows out of control. One of our Green Meadow parents is the Director of Development for this organization and they are always in need of the items on this list, particularly children's clothing. Items that are labeled with a child's name will not be donated. They will be returned to the child.

Grade 2 Hour of Code Week Grade 2 Hour of Code Week

The “Hour of Code” event takes place each year during Computer Science Education Week. It is held annually, typically in December, in recognition of the birthday (December 9, 1906) of Computing pioneer Admiral Grace Murray Hopper. This year it will take place at GMS on December 15-19th. The program was designed to celebrate coding and raise awareness. It was intended to be a quick way to show that anybody can learn the basics of coding and to broaden participation in the field of computer science. Today it’s become a global movement, participating in 180 countries and 45 languages.

Green Meadow Grade 2 Parents and Caregivers are invited to attend a Computer Science class with their student. A Google form sign-up will be available to families through email after the Thanksgiving break.

The following is a schedule for Grade 2 classes:

Monday, Dec 15th Mrs. Jones (9:15-10:00)

Tuesday, Dec 16th Ms. LeBlanc (9:15-10:00)

Wednesday, Dec 17th Sra. Flores (9:15-10:00)

Thursday, Dec 18th Mrs. Holly (9:15-10:00)

Friday, Dec 19th Ms. Norcross (9:15-10:00)
