What About Pacing Guides? What About Pacing Guides?

The Instructional Division reviewed the pacing guides thoroughly last week. Here is what we found:

  • The "I can" statements are missing certain standards or parts of a standard
  • The "I can" statements are watered down which reduces the rigor of the CCSS it is associated with - not written at the taxonomy level of the standard
  • They are not up-to-date
  • The Pacing Guides will be permanently taken down after first semester. This will give teachers an opportunity to make the move to the official CCSS.

Linking the Workshop Model to a Learning Target Linking the Workshop Model to a Learning Target

Teacher should identify the learning target(s) at each stage of the Workshop Model in student friendly language (i.e. “I can” statements) so that students know how it connects to the learning progression, connection prior learning and extension to future skills and learning. All activities support student learning as they relate to the learning target(s). See graphic below for a detailed flowchart.

Performance scales are rubrics based on the learning target. Students will compare the learning target and performance scale to measure and evaluate their performance.

Below is a scale that can be used with any learning target.
