On Thursday afternoon, the Bennington community came together for an assembly at Pierce School. It was a time of remembrance to observe Memorial Day.

Students sang patriotic songs and presented the history and meaning behind the day. Mr. Stephen Roy attended from the local chapter of the VFW to share more about the importance of this observance.

We would also like to extend a special thank you to Cody Brown and Merrick Lyons from Great Brook Middle School, who played "Taps" on their trumpets.

Teamwork Comes to Life

Kindergarten has been having so much fun enjoying our A to Z Countdown! We explored science with an exciting exploding volcano experiment and had a blast on Upcycle Day, turning old cardboard into an amazing bus and pirate ship using our creativity and teamwork. We also wrapped up our Native American unit by spending time playing special games created by our buddies. It has been a wonderful week full of learning, imagination, and hands-on fun!

Building Learning

It was a short, but very busy and fun week! Last week we planted our own seeds to study and watch grow! Each student planted some zinnia flower seeds and they have already started germinating and sprouting! We have been making observations and writing notes in our plant journals. In ELA we have been working on magic "e" with a soft "g" sound. For both first and second graders in math, we completed the unit assessments and both grades are moving to geometry! This is such a fun unit. The Backwards ABC Countdown has been great and on Tuesday we worked with Ms. Sutton’s class to start making some volcanoes that we will erupt next week. For upcycle day we made “telescopes” out of old paper towel and toilet paper rolls. We had another science lesson with Susie Spikol from The Harris Center and she brought bones for us to examine and try to use characteristics to guess which animals the bones came from!

We can’t wait for next week’s activities!

Oh the Places We'll Go...

What a day Ms. Germain’s and Ms. Sutton’s classes had at the Nashua Technical College in Nashua. Students visited the automotive department, library, and the 3D printing shop where they explored vehicles, tried to make lights work and of course went for a ride in the electric car! The pizza, fruit and cookies were fantastic for our mid day lunch break. The smiles on their faces could light up a room. This was a trip for the memory books for sure! We would all like to thank Jason Felton and Melinda Adams for putting this day together as well as all of the NCC staff who made this day possible. Grappone’s of Peterborough also funded the bus! The pictures can tell the story from here! Enjoy!

What an exciting week for 4th graders! Great Brook School Ambassadors visited our 4th grade classroom on Tuesday along with Laura Gourley GBS Counselor and Adam Caragher, GBS Principal. They shared a fun Morning Show video to get to know the staff and some students at Great Brook School.

Some 4th grade comments include:

Lyla said, "I am very excited to be in Great Brook School."

Fox said, "I am looking forward to meeting Mrs. Ketchum, the math teacher and Ms. Beaulieu for science."

Brennan was very intrigued to learn that kids could dissect cow eyeballs.

On Tuesday, we also met with our Kindergarten buddies to play Native American games. Kindergarten has been learning about Native Americans in their ELA program. As an extension, 4th graders chose Native American games to learn about, gather materials, and become familiar with the rules. Kindergarteners had so much fun with their 4th grade buddies!

Have a wonderful Memorial Day Weekend.
