Thank You for Coming to Back to School Night!
We hosted our Back to School Night on Friday, Sept. 4! What a lovely night shared by teachers, families, and students! We enjoyed a brief respite from the heat, raised funds to support student activities and clubs, and shared about some of the exciting learning experiences that your students will have this year!
America's Healthiest Schools
We are proud to announce that SD Met has been named one of America's #HealthiestSchools by @healthiergeneration. We are 1 of 43 schools in SDUSD to be recognized, and this recognition reflects our ongoing commitment to fostering a healthy and supportive environment for our students, staff, and families. View the full list at healthiestschools.org.
We’re grateful for our community's support!
Some classroom and staff needs aren’t covered by our school budget, so we’ve created a wish list for families who would like to help!
Participation is completely optional, and every contribution—big or small—is truly appreciated. Thank you for supporting our teachers, staff, and students!

We are looking for parent volunteers to help our seniors look their best on portrait day Friday, October 2! You do not need to have a senior to volunteer—any parent who is willing to lend a helping hand is welcome!
Volunteers will assist students with simple wardrobe adjustments, including helping students with their drape and/or tuxedo jacket and bow tie. No special experience is needed—just a friendly smile and willingness to help! Volunteers are needed from 8:15 a.m. to approximately 12:00 p.m. If you are interested in volunteering, please email cdumas@sandi.net no later than Friday, September 18.
Your support will help make the senior portrait experience smooth, comfortable, and memorable for our students. Thank you for helping make this special day a success!

Celebrations
Spirit Week!
Students brought their team spirit, creativity, and school pride to life during Spirit Week! From music and sports to a little glamour, each day gave students a chance to show off their personalities and cheer on their favorite things.
🎶 Monday – Favorite Artist/Musician: Students rocked their favorite artists and musicians, showing off their love of music and personal style.
🏆 Wednesday – Favorite Sports Team: Team spirit was on full display as students proudly represented their favorite sports teams!
✨ Friday – Glam Day: We wrapped up the week in style with Glam Day, and our students certainly knew how to sparkle!
It was wonderful seeing everyone participate, have fun, and celebrate the spirit of our community. A big shout-out to our students for making Spirit Week such a memorable one!
Ms. Doyle's Government Class
- Nicole Crosby, candidate for San Diego City Council District 2. Nicole shared her personal background, professional experience, and journey into running for political office. Her story was both inspiring and thought-provoking, offering our seniors an engaging look at what it takes to step into public service and make a difference in the community. We’re grateful to Nicole for taking the time to connect with our seniors and share her experiences!
Abeeha Hussain, Organizer with the Center on Policy Initiatives, gave an informative and engaging conversation about the City of San Diego’s budget and how community members can have a voice in local decision-making. Abeeha shared valuable insights into how our city’s budget impacts our communities and highlighted ways residents can stay informed, speak up, and get involved. It was an empowering discussion that reminded us that every voice matters—and civic engagement starts right here in our community! https://cpisandiego.org/

Need-To-Knows
Attendance and Absences
Regular and timely attendance both on campus and at internships is one of the most important factors for your student’s success! Students who are regularly tardy or absent are missing valuable learning time and are much more likely to fall behind and struggle in their studies. As such, we will be contacting parents for your support if your student is struggling with attendance.
Parents must report all student absences (including late arrivals and early departures) via the quick and simple Attendance Reporting Form online. Please submit this form EVERY TIME your student will miss all or part of a school day. This includes INTERNSHIP DAYS (TUESDAYS/THURSDAYS)! Thank you for supporting your child’s success!
Daily Schedule
In our regular daily schedule, all students will attend classes on campus from 8:30am to 3:15pm on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays. Tuesdays and Thursdays are dedicated to internship search, and ALL students must attend school on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 8:30am to 11:30am.
NEW 9th graders and 10th and 11th grade TRANSFER students will participate in the Met Gateway Program on Tuesdays and Thursdays (see below) for the first six weeks of school, where they will learn about our internship program and be prepared for internship success. After students complete Gateway, they will be eligible to begin an internship.
RETURNING students will work with their advisor on Tuesdays and Thursdays on finding an internship placement. As soon as a returning student has secured an internship, including a signed contract with the mentor, the student may start attending internship on Tuesdays and Thursdays instead of coming to campus.
Chromebooks
Students are to bring their FULLY CHARGED Chromebooks to school every day! Our district’s 1-to-1 Chromebook policy enables every student to have a Chromebook checked out to them exclusively. This means that every student can take their Chromebook home every day, and it is their responsibility to bring them back to school charged and ready to work on every day.
If your student forgets to bring their Chromebook, we unfortunately do not have extras to loan out. Your student will be asked to call home to ask for their Chromebook to be brought to school. If it cannot be brought to school by parent/guardian, the student will work on assignments in an alternative format.
Technology in the Classroom
As the start of this school year, SDUSD introduced a new learner-centered technology approach to help students stay focused, healthy, and engaged in learning. At the Met, students will see a few important changes:
Video-streaming platforms, such as YouTube, will only be available on district-issued Chromebooks when enabled by teachers for instructional purposes.
Non-instructional gaming platforms will still be prohibited on district-issued devices.
These updates are part of our commitment to creating learning environments where technology supports student learning, safety, wellness, and healthy development.
As a parent, you can also reduce screentime and non-instructional use of Chromebooks by activating your Blocksi Parent account to monitor and restrict access when your student is not at school. To learn more about how to use Blocksi, read this Blocksi Parent Job Aid.

Food on Campus
Food options on campus include free school meals (breakfast and lunch), which are provided by our school district. Students will need to sign up in the office if they wish to be on the list to receive school meals.
Students may purchase food through Mesa College food options, which include the Mesa Commons Cafeteria, open Mondays-Fridays.
In addition, students are always welcome to bring breakfast and lunch from home.
We have been experiencing very warm weather, so please have students bring reusable water bottles to stay hydrated!
Students are NOT allowed to have food delivered from delivery services (such as DoorDash, GrubHub, Uber Eats, and similar apps). Though we are located on a college campus, the Met is a CLOSED campus, and students are not allowed to leave campus during school hours without permission, nor are food deliveries or other unauthorized visitors allowed. Please ensure that your students bring food or lunch money so that they can eat well, be healthy, and stay focused on their studies!
Drop-Off and Pick-Up Information
Student drop-off and pick-up is allowed in Lot 1 in the pull-out area in front of I-400, near the bottom of the main staircase. You may also use other areas along Mesa College Circle where there are curb cuts to allow cars to pull off the road. Please DO NOT attempt to drive up to the SD Met building for drop-off or pick-up. If you plan to park and visit the Met, you may park in a 1-hour visitor spot (limited) or use pay stations to purchase an hourly parking permit in Lot 1.
Student Parking Permits
For students who drive to campus and wish to have a parking permit for the semester, the application form is available in the front office. Please bring the completed form with the payment of $40 cash only (no card payments are accepted at this time) to the Mesa College police office at Q-100 between 8am and 5pm Mon-Thurs (closed Fridays).
Mesa College Classes
All students who are enrolled in Mesa College classes should bookmark and regularly check the Met/Mesa Google Classroom for updates, deadlines, and instructions. If you have any questions, please email Mr. Moravec, jmoravec@sandi.net
District News
As high temperatures continue across the San Diego region, with heat advisories and excessive heat warnings in effect in some areas, SD Met is closely monitoring conditions and taking steps to help keep students and staff safe.
All educational spaces in our school are air conditioned, and during periods of high heat, we take the following steps as appropriate:
Modifying instructional activities and adjusting schedules when necessary
Limiting or rescheduling strenuous outdoor activities
Utilizing shaded and air-conditioned spaces as available
Providing access to drinking water and encouraging hydration
Monitoring students and staff for signs of heat-related illness
Relocating students from non-air-conditioned areas when needed
Families Can Help Students Stay Cool
Please encourage your student to drink plenty of water throughout the day and consider sending them to school with a refillable water bottle. Students should dress for the weather when possible by wearing lightweight, loose-fitting, and light-colored clothing. Remind students to take breaks from the heat and to tell an adult right away if they begin to feel unwell.
Families are also encouraged to review the Heat Illness Prevention Plan with their children for information on preventing heat illness, recognizing warning signs and knowing when to seek medical attention.
