A Message from Mr. Hartman
On behalf of the staff at Bloomer Elementary, I would like to welcome you all to the new school year! We are off to a great start, and I can assure you that the staff we have assembled will provide your child with the very best learning opportunities possible. Our goal is to ensure that each student shows social, emotional and academic growth throughout the year. We are committed to supporting and encouraging each child to embrace the new challenges that lie ahead.
As with the start of every school year, we have some new faces in our building. Not only did we welcome in 23 new students this fall, we also brought in a few new staff members. We kicked-off our year with our annual Welcome Back Day which took place on August 22. This event served as a great way for kids to come in and get comfortable with their new surroundings. It was also an opportunity for teachers and parents to develop the open lines of communication, which will be vital to each child’s success.
With the first few days of school is behind us, it is apparent that students have settled in quite well. Many students have begun to make new friends, and most have adjusted to the routines and procedures associated with the new school year. As a staff, we focused on spending time getting to know kids and developing the rapport necessary to ensure each child has the best experience possible here.
Each month we will keep you posted on the happenings at Bloomer Elementary by sharing with you a monthly newsletter. This is just one way for us to help build the connection between home and our school community, which we recognize as being a key component to our continued success. Please do not hesitate to call us if you have any questions or concerns. I wish you all a great school year!

“Savor the moments…your child will travel this path just once…”
Welcome back to another wonderful school year at BES! I hope your summer months were filled with smiles, laughter and memories made! Inside these walls children and adults are learning and growing together. We make a stellar team! ☺ Thank you for your support of and dedication to the success of our kiddos!
During the 2023-2024 school year, classroom Guidance lessons will be built around the Wisconsin Social Emotional Learning Competencies, specifically focused on the areas of Emotional Development (understand and manage one’s emotions), Self-Concept (develop positive self-identity and recognize self as a learner) and Social Competence (establish and maintain positive relationships). Each month, lessons will center around topics related to those competencies. To kick off the school year, students will learn ways to focus attention, use organization strategies, set goals, work cooperatively with others, demonstrate listening skills and more! We will read stories, participate in various activities and play some games to help us be successful in school and beyond! ☺
Throughout the school year, the Counseling department will be offering small group learning opportunities focusing on various topics, including social skills, peer relationships, managing intense emotions, etc. If you would like your child to participate, please contact me for more information. Individual counseling appointments may also be requested at any time. Please reach out if there is any issue you would like me to discuss with your child to offer extra support. During these weekly times with me, I can be a trusted friend who listens and helps students with self-esteem, understanding and managing emotions, conflict resolution, family change, being new to our school, friendships, grief and loss and more. ☺
The Blackhawk Education Foundation has generously donated school supplies to our school! This incredible gesture of thoughtfulness is appreciated and we are thankful to have their assistance. Additional donated supplies are available in the School Counseling office. Students needing assistance obtaining required supplies throughout the school year are welcome to any items they need. ☺ Various hygiene products are also available in the Counseling office for students and families.
**The School Counseling department offers many resources for parents, covering a wide range of topics. Featured resources this month include: Helping Your Child Overcome Separation Anxiety or School Refusal by Andrew R. Eisen, PhD & Linda B. Engler, PhD, How To Get Kids To Say YES! Using The Secret Four Color Languages To Get Kids To Listen by Ella, Liz & Keith Schreiter, Peaceful Parent, Happy Kids, a workbook by Dr. Laura Markham, Parenting Toolbox 125 Activities Therapists Use To Manage Emotions, Increase Positive Behaviors & Reduce Meltdowns by Dr. Lisa Weed Phifer and Moving Past Perfect: How Perfectionism May Be Holding Back Your Kids (and You!) and What You Can Do About It by Thomas S. Greenspon, PhD. Please stop in and take a look! Resources are available for check-out!
My goal for this school year is that we unite to challenge and inspire “our” children, help them achieve the belief they are capable of anything and do all we can to provide them a safe, enriching, nurturing environment to learn and grow!
The Dalai Lama said, “Be kind whenever possible. It is always possible!” Sounds about right to me! Remember, it’s ALWAYS a GREAT day to BE A BlackHAWK (Help All With Kindness)! Be BlackHAWK proud! ☺ Enjoy the school year! Happy Fall! ☺
