Hello Glennwood Families,
It is always wonderful to see our Eagles return from a break so refreshed and ready to dive back into their classroom routines. The engagement we’ve seen this week has been fantastic, and it is a testament to how quickly our students settle back into the business of growing and exploring when they have such a supportive community behind them.
Speaking of engagement, I want to extend a huge thank you to all of our families for the increased participation we’ve seen with Freckle and LaLilo at home. I know adding these digital tools into your home routines can be a bit of an adjustment, but your efforts are already yielding incredible results! We are already seeing our student engagement and accuracy scores climb, and we truly appreciate your partnership in reinforcing these essential literacy and math skills outside of the school day.
Looking ahead to this weekend, I am so excited for the PTA Casino Night this Saturday! Our PTA has worked tirelessly to put together what promises to be a spectacular evening for our adult community to connect and have some fun. I hope to see many of you there as we gather to support the wonderful initiatives that benefit all of our students.
Finally, I have one more massive celebration to share: we have reached 88% completion for our GaDOE School Climate Survey! This level of participation is truly inspiring and shows just how much our families value having their voices heard. If you haven't had a chance to complete it yet, we would love to push that number even higher before the window closes! You can access the survey link HERE.
Thank you for making our return from break so positive and productive. It’s going to be a fantastic finish to the month!
In partnership,
Bill Howard

Specials Spotlight - What's Happening in Creativity and Critical Thinking?
Kindergarten: We continue to work on divergent (creative, fluent thinking)and convergent (finding a logical solution) thinking. We just completed an activity that focuses on visual/spatial perception. The students had two cards with varied geometric and organic shapes that they moved around in order to reconstruct the parts to create a new picture. First they listened to clues to make specific things (i.e., put your two cards together to make something that flies in the sky, to make something that you would find on a present or in your hair). Then the students had time to explore with the cards to come up with their own ideas (i.e., hot dogs, ducks, beavers, french fries, etc.). It is a joy to watch the little ones have time to be creative, have fun, and engage in silly conversations with one another!
First Grade: We continue to work on stretching our brains by practicing our divergent thinking. We just finished an activity that focused on fluency using both horizontal and vertical lines: how many varied and original ideas can you come up with using the lines given? We are encouraging the kids to be problem solvers and that develops as they become more fluent thinkers. It was fun to see their fluency at work (i.e. cakes, utensils, skyscrapers, cars, rockets, wands, flags, swords, sunsets, tables, lamps, etc.).
Second Grade: We are working on divergent thinking with a focus on elaboration. We have practiced this concept by adding details and color to help tell a story with our creations, but we are now practicing adding humor to our ideas. We started with analyzing Bazooka Joe comics (i.e., what made it funny or not and how could we make it funnier) then we practiced as a whole group with adding humor to blank speech bubbles in a comic drawing. The students are now practicing independently with varied comic prompts. I enjoy listening to their conversations with peers regarding their ideas and seeing their humor come alive in their comics.
