Frog Pond SchoolNewsletter 11/2021Volume 21-22 Issue 3

Tom Denning, Principal

Seasons Greetings Frog Pond Families,

The Holiday season is upon us, and our Frog Pond student council is holding 2 separate collections for December. A donation drive to send supplies to our troops overseas, as well as a collection for our local animal shelter. We will also be collecting warm winter gloves, scarves and hats to donate to local families.

We look forward to seeing our Living Museum performed by students during parent/teacher conferences, the chorus concert and the very popular PTO events: Cookies & Milk with Santa and the PTO Holiday Shop.

Fall parent/teacher conferences will be held on December 8th (Evening), 9th (Evening), and the 10th (Afternoon). This is a wonderful opportunity to meet with your child’s teacher to discuss their academic progress, ask questions or address concerns. I encourage every parent to attend if possible.

During this holiday season, my wish for each of you is that you enjoy the people in your lives, enjoy the holidays, and have a Happy New Year!

Sincerely,

Thomas P. Denning

Principal

During the month of October, both Ms. Vezos’s homeroom as well as Mrs. Bruno’s homeroom worked on a long distance learning project with two classes from Kansas. The final part of the project was to meet each class on a Google meet. It was so much fun! Thanks to Mrs. Randall for all of your technology help.

Ms. Gunn's Class Room Ms. Gunn's Class Room

Each year Miss Gunn's classes take part in this Veterans Day project titled, "Star Heroes." They are given a sheet of stars to take home and then they discuss with their families about if they have any relatives that are veterans. If they do, for each relative that is a veteran they put their name and military branch on it. They can also put their job, medals they won, etc. on the star. The final step is to color it either red, white, and blue or in the colors that represent the military branch. Once all stars are returned we create a poster. This year Miss Gunn and Mrs. Nagy's classes had a total of 103 veterans in their families! Here is the breakdown between branches: Army- 44; Navy- 28; Marines- 16; Air Force- 11; Coast Guard- 2; Various- 2 (Civil War and 1 in Basic Training but was not sure which branch). The best part of this project is hearing all of the stories the students share when they come in, especially when they tell how they did not realize that they had any veterans in their family. We thank you all for your service!

In STEAM the 3rd and 4th graders are reading the book Balloons Over Broadway by Melissa Sweet. in this story they learn about the story of Tony Sarg, a puppeteer, and how he uses engineering skills to create balloons for the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade. The students are making their own balloons and using the green screen to put them in Time Square. Here are some pictures of Mrs. Barat's and Mrs. Truex's class creations.
