Madison High School Updates
November 16th, 2025
Message from Mrs. Thomas
It's hard to believe that we are nearing the end of the 1st Trimester! Please encourage your student to stay focused and finish strong. Continue to monitor your student's attendance, homework completion and course grades via the Parent Portal in Infinite Campus (IC).
As we head into trimester exams this week, I wanted to share a few reminders.
The attendance policy can viewed on page 11 of the HS Student Handbook.
Once a student accumulates nine (9) or more absences in a trimester, they are required to achieve at least a C+ (78% or higher) on the final exam to be eligible to earn credit. Students who achieve an exam score of 78% or higher, will receive no lower than a 60% D- on their report card and final transcript.
Employability is one of our PBIS Pillars. New this year, our Building Implementation Team is offering the following incentive to recognize those students who demonstrate excellent attendance:
Students that have 0 countable absences and 2 or fewer tardies total for the entire trimester will earn an exam exemption for all MHS classes that they are currently passing (prior to attendance grade). Students have the option to still take the trimester exam if they choose. The list of students who are eligible for this incentive will be determined at the end of the day on Thursday, November 20th.
The schedule for trimester exams is as follows:
Friday, November 21st - 11:00 Dismissal - EXAMS 1 & 4 (PM Tech only)
Monday, November 24th - 11:00 Dismissal - EXAMS 2 & 3 (AM Tech only)
Tuesday, November 25th - 11:00 Dismissal - EXAMS 5 & 6 (PM Tech only)
Wednesday, November 26th - 28th - NO SCHOOL
Classroom Highlights
PLTW Showcase
Project Lead The Way is a national organization recognized for their curriculum focused on Science, Technology, Engineering and Math. Project Lead The Way reached out to MHS teacher, Katie McGormley, earlier this Fall requesting to showcase the exemplary work taking place in our HS Biomedical Science Program. This past Thursday, we hosted a representative from the National PLTW organization along with representatives from the LISD, local business and industry leaders and program alumni. Students from our Biomedical Sciences, Human Body Systems & Anatomy, and Medical Interventions courses demonstrated a sample of some of the many hands-on labs that are performed within each program. Our students did a fantastic job showcasing their skills and highlighting how their experiences in PLTW connect to opportunities at the LISD Tech Center and/or their future post-secondary plans. Congratulations to Mrs. McGormley and our amazing PLTW students!
US History A Projects
This past week students in Mr. Schmidt's US History A class looked at the effects of the Great Depression & learned about Franklin Roosevelt's New Deal to save the country. After researching different programs students then picked which they thought was most impactful and created a Cereal Box advertisement to promote and inform others on how their program was designed to fix the depression.
Powder Puff Football and Iron Man Volleyball
This past Friday, our HS Student Council hosted the annual Powder Puff Football and Iron Man Volleyball Games between the Class of 2026 and the Class of 2027. The Junior Girls took home the victory in Powder Puff Football and the Senior Boys took the win in Iron Man Volleyball!
