Gering Board of Education Meeting
Bulldog Boardroom Recap from October Meeting
Building Report: Geil Elementary: A Goal of 4,000 Books!
Mrs. Morris and four stellar Geil Elementary students shared their new literacy initiative with the Board of Education! Their schoolwide reading challenge is all about building strong reading foundations and inspiring a lifelong love of books. Their goal is to read 4,000 books as a school! We’re excited to see Geil’s Bulldogs embrace reading and work toward this goal together.
Board Updates
Board of Education Election: Three Board of Education terms are expiring, with all three seats included in the November election. Greg Trautman and Bryan Barrett filed for re-election, while John Maser did not re-file. With three seats open and two incumbents on the ballot, an appointment process could be used after January to fill the remaining seat.
Board Action Items
Option Enrollment Standards — Approved: The Board approved the annual resolution establishing standards for option enrollment applications, as required under state law (LB 653 and LB 705). These standards help the district plan for staffing and facility needs while ensuring it meets the enrollment needs of resident students.
Interlocal Agreement — Tabled: The Board tabled action on a proposed interlocal agreement with the City of Gering to adjust fencing along 17th Street near the track facility. The item was tabled to allow the City's legal counsel time to review the agreement.
Old West Weekend
Mentor of the Quarter: Tyler Thompson
Did you know Gering Public Schools has a mentor program for new educators to our district? We are happy to recognize Tyler Thompson as Mentor of the Quarter, nominated by new GHS ELA teachers, Avery Clason and Stacy Baker.
"Mr. Thompson goes above and beyond to support his colleagues, mentoring two new teachers while stepping up to take on an elective to help his teammates. He regularly checks in, answers questions, offers honest feedback, and provides a listening ear when it's needed."
Thank you for showing what it means to be a supportive teammate and helping our newest Bulldogs succeed!
