Dear UU Family,

These are difficult times that call on us to truly live our UU values and help each other and those in need without hesitation.

Now is a time to soften our hearts, open our hands, and give generously!

Due to SNAP benefits being both delayed and reduced, many families that were already struggling after Hurricane Helene are unable to meet basic needs. This includes members of our own congregation and our neighbors throughout Hendersonville and the surrounding area!

Please keep reading to see where and when you can pick-up food for your family if you need support. Also included here are ways you can donate, volunteer, or adopt a family for the holidays.

As always, please remember that in the UUFH Family Ministry program, you are loved and your children are cherished! If there's something you need, please let me know. I'll do my best to connect you to the resources or information that will help.

Love,

Sunday Shae Parker

General Information about the UUFH Donation Drives

UUFH is partnering with Interfaith Assistance Ministries (IAM), to get food, clothing, blankets, and personal hygiene items to those who need them.

If you are in a position to give, you are strongly encouraged to bring your food, warm clothing, and hygiene donations to UUFH or take them to IAM directly and get a receipt for the UUFH office. Keeping track of receipts is helpful for writing grants and internal bookkeeping.

Donors have options. You can drop off donations at the UU office across the street from the sanctuary Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday between 10-2PM or you can drop off the donations into the donation wagon in the foyer on Sunday mornings immediately before or immediately after the service.

Holiday Toy Drive - Adopt a Family Today!

Hi there!

I'm Mandy Mez, and I run Awkward Moms of Hendo - a local group for families that might not feel they fit in everywhere.

Every year we do a big Adopt a Family Event where families can sign up to be "adopted" by other members of the group for help with Christmas presents. This year we have already had over 60 families sign up! That's more than the last two years combined!

We have 152 kids signed up so far, so we need your help!

I am reaching out to the broader community for help getting these families help for the holidays. If you would like to adopt a kid or two or three... we would be eternally grateful! If your business would like to adopt a family, we will give your business a shout-out in our Thank You letter that will pinned in the group until next year's event.

Information for adopters:

We assign to our adopters the number of kids they request. Once assigned, they are given the Name, Age, and Interests of each child and asked to spend a minimum of $75 per child. We are asking that all gifts be ready for pick up by December 18 so that we can have them delivered by December 20th.

Ready to sign-up and help a family? Please email me at Mandy_Mez@yahoo.com

All the Best,

Mez
