Hello Fisler Families,

We had a great week at Fisler! Walk to School was such a fun way to start our morning together. Thank you to all the families who joined us. We had a wonderful turnout! Despite the heat this week, our students did a wonderful job being flexible and moving indoors when needed to stay cool.

A highlight for me this week was getting into our classrooms. I love seeing our students’ unique personalities, strengths, curiosity, and humor. Watching them learn, grow, and become more confident brings so much joy to my heart. With your support and the care of our teachers, I am excited to see all they will accomplish in school and in life.

This Thursday, October 15th, Fisler will participate in the Great ShakeOut earthquake drill, joining schools and communities across the country and around the world on International ShakeOut Day. Students and staff will practice “Drop, Cover, and Hold On” as we review our earthquake safety procedures. This is also a great opportunity to talk with your child about your family’s emergency plan. Thank you for helping us keep safety a shared priority!

We also have plenty to look forward to this week! Be sure to read the announcements below, including details about our first ELAC meeting of the year this Wednesday, October 14, at 8:00 a.m., and our Fisler Gala on Friday, October 16. I look forward to a fun evening together in support of our school!

On a personal note, I was able to visit my son in Berkeley for a fun Parents’ Weekend! We enjoyed a local band at a charity fundraiser, a football game, and brunch with his friends and their families. Most importantly, I helped him with laundry and shopping! I loved spending time in his world.

Warmly,

Caroline Llewellyn, Ed.D.

Celebrating Filipino American Heritage Month!

October is Filipino American Heritage Month—a time to celebrate and honor the rich history, culture, traditions, and contributions of Filipino Americans.

At Fisler, we are proud to celebrate the many Filipino American students, families, staff, and community members who help make our school community so special. This month is an opportunity to learn about Filipino history and culture, celebrate the many contributions of Filipino Americans, and appreciate the traditions and experiences that connect and enrich our community.

We celebrate the culture, honor the history, and recognize the contributions of Filipino Americans—this month and throughout the year!

This month, we invite our Fisler families to celebrate together through stories! Take some time to read or listen to a Filipino or Filipino American story with your child and talk about the traditions, family connections, and experiences you see in the story

Read Together as a Family

Share these delightful stories with your child to learn about the wonderful Filipino heritage and traditions.

  • Cora Cooks Pancit — Follow Cora as she learns to prepare pancit with her mother while celebrating her Filipino heritage.

  • Lolo's Sari-Sari Store — A story celebrating family, Filipino culture, and the special connection between generations.

  • Dancing the Tinikling — A joyful story about a child learning the traditional Filipino dance and connecting with her Filipino and American heritage.
